Unit Plan: Spain


Grade: 12th
Subject: World Languages
Duration: as a whole 4 weeks
Class Size: 20-25 Learners
Themes:

1.Regions and Provences (Geography and Location)


2. Languages Identified with each Provence.
3 Import and Export Commerce. Name 3 Main item in each region

Main Objective: The Learner will compare and contrast important similarities and
differences about Spains regions, languages and commerce.

Week one
Lesson Title: Regions and Provences (Geography and Location)
Duration: 1 week
Objectives: The learner will research geographical information on their computers,
focusing on the different regions of Spain. The learner will memorize the regions and
compare and contrast the regions to the Spanish country as a whole.
Materials and Resources: Students will need paper, pencil or pen, computer and
mapping Software provided (Google Maps or other).
Anticipatory Set: The teacher will introduce Spain as a whole on the board using a
Mapping tool (Google Maps). The teacher will explain that there are 17 regions in
Spain and that students are expected to learn these regions through repetition and
memorization.
Objective: The learner will memorize the 17 regions of Spain and write, draw, or
whatever is best for the learner to memorize the different Spanish regions.
Input: The Leaners should come to class will prior Knowledge of memorization
techniques. The learner will already know that they need to be preparing for this
assignments for the next month. The teacher will present the new material (Spanish
Regions) on the board and demonstrate what is being asked of the learner.
Model: The teacher will demonstrate understanding by teaching different
memorization techniques that will assist the learners in memorizing the Different
regions of Spain. For example. Using a blank Map of Spain on a piece a paper, and
drawing in the different regions while identifying the location of each region.

Check for Understanding: Prior to leaving class each day of the week the Teacher
will ask each individual student to fill out a blank map of Spain, and Label the
regions and locations to the best of the learners abilities. The last day of the week
the learner should be able to compete the Fill in the Blank worksheet. The teacher
will allow students to work in groups and periodically check in on the groups to
check for understanding of Material. The learner will turn the assignment in at the
end of each class for a grade.
Guided Practice: After Instructions the learner will have the opportunity to search
for, draw, write and practice memorizing the information that they have just
learned. Using Paper, pencils and Computers. The teacher will be available to
answer any and all questions about the project.
Closure: The Teacher will remind students of the time remaining in class. The
teacher at the end of class will close the class with what is to be expected from the
learners the following day. The learner will need to come to class prepared to
continue memorizing the different regions of Spain and Location.
Independent Practice. The Learner will take home a written worksheet that the
teacher has provided for them in order for students to continue thinking and
memorizing the Geographical location of Spanish regions. It will be similar to exit
slips.

Week 2
Lesson Title: Languages Identified with each Provence.
Duration 1 week
Objectives: The learner will Identify and memories the different languages of the
different regions of Spain. The learner will know what languages each different
region of Spain speaks.
Material and Resources: Computer, Google Maps, Google Translate, Paper, Pencil
and pen.
Anticipatory set: The teacher will use Prior knowledge (Week 1 region memorization)
and introduce the second part of the assignment by displaying new information on
the board. The Teacher will prepare students, using techniques such as strong voice
to get students ready for new assignment.
Objective: The learner will memorize and identify the 5 different languages of Spain
and where they are spoken in the regions of Spain.
Input: The learners will know the different regions of Spain from prior lessons, and
be aware of the continuing ongoing project in their class.
Model: The teacher will demonstrate learning and memorization techniques such as
repeating the names of languages spoken and point to the location of where the
languages are spoken on the Spanish map.

Check for Understanding: The teacher will use exit tickets for the learners. The
teacher will have the students fill out a map of Spain with the regions blanked out.
The learner will need to fill in the regions (which the learner should already know)
and include the regions language spoken. To the best of their abilities. On the last
day of the week The Learner should have the entire Map of Spain filled in correctly
with regions and languages. The learner will turn into the teacher at the end of each
class their exit slip for a grade.

teacher has provided for them in order for students to continue thinking and
memorizing the Languages in the different locations of Spanish regions.

Week 3
Lesson Title: Import and Export Commerce. Name 3 Main item in each region
Duration: 1 week
Objectives: The learner will research and memorize 3 different Imports and/or
Exports from each different Spanish region.
Materials and Resources: Computers, Google Translate, Google Maps, Paper, Pencil
and Pen
Anticipatory set: The teacher will present on the board the Map of Spain with
Regions and Languages. The teacher will then explain that students will be
researching the commerce (importing and exporting) of material into the individual
regions of Spain.
Objective: The learner will research and begin memorizing different imports and
exports to and from the country of Spain.
Input: The learner should know the different regions of Spain, The Languages that
each region of Spain speaks and what they are expected to know by the end of the
3rd week. The Learner should know that they will need to complete their research for
a grade (Exit Slips).

Model: The teacher will model research of imports and exports of Different Goods
into Spain by explaining, or giving examples of types of goods that might be needed
in certain areas (A.KA. Drinking Water in Barcelona.)
Check for Understanding: The learner will be required to list a few items of
Commerce. The learner again will repeat filling in a Map of Spain with the regions
and include at least 1 commerce imported or exported for each region. The learner
will turn into teacher their exit slips at the end of each class for a grade. The learner
will at the end of the week be able to fill in 3 different imports and/or exports in
regards to location with the 17 different regions of Spain, and the languages spoken
in each region.
Closure: The Teacher will remind students of the time remaining in class. The
teacher at the end of class will close the class with what is to be expected from the
learners the following day. The learners will need to come to class prepared to
continue memorizing, and learning the different types of imports and exports of
each Spanish region.
Independent practice: The teacher will hand out Articles for the learner to read and
write one page of notes on to turn in the next day for credit.

Week 4
Lesson Title: Presentation Finals Week.
Duration 1 week
Menu Choices:
1. Pretend to be a travel agent advertising different facts of Spanish Culture.
2. Write a report on Spanish Culture
3. Plan a trip to Spain with a friend, where would you go? Why?
4. Create a Venn diagram contrasting Spanish Culture (Similarities/ Differences)
5. Create a poster, Brochure or PowerPoint relating to Spanish Culture.
Objectives: The Learners will create a final presentation of the learner choice from
the learning menu listed above. The Learner will use prior learned information to
show in depth understanding Of Spain, Spanish Regions, Spanish Languages, Import
and Exports and learned new facts for presenting.
Material and Resources: As Needed- Poster boards, Paper, Computers, Maps, Pencils
Pens, Colored pencils.
Anticipatory Set: The Teacher will explain to students on the board that a final
presentation is due. The teacher will remind learners of what they have learned
prior and prepare the learners for what is expected of them in the final. The teacher
will explain the different choices from the menu and give examples.

Objective: The learners will use prior knowledge to create a final presentation of
their choosing. The learner will express understanding of the Regions of Spain, the
Languages of Spain, Spanish regions with different types of imports and exports for
each of the regions. The learner will choose from the menu provided and create a
presentation.
Input: The learner should have a detailed understanding of Spanish regions, Spanish
Languages and Different Imports and Exports Commerce for each Spanish Region.
Model: The teacher will demonstrate through examples of what is to be expected
from the final presentation. The teacher will show past work from other classes or
create a presentation board for the classroom.
Check for Understanding: The learners will at the end of each class present to me
what they have accomplished. At the end of the 1 st day of the fourth week the
learners should have chosen what type of presentation they have chosen and how
the leaner will present the information to the class. The Learners will present their
research and understanding during the last two days of the week. Presentations
should be no longer than ten minutes each. Detailed information, and work put into
presented material will be graded.
Guided Practice: After the initial instructions the Learners will be free to practice
what they have learned, begin researching and start creating their individual
projects. The teacher will be available during the class period to help and assist
students with ideas.
Closure: At the end of the presentations Students will be given the choice of a
celebration and can bring, cook, share anything related to Spanish Language,
Culture, Regions, items, imported and exported items. Students will then be
prepared for what is going to be taught the next day of class.
Independent Practice: The teacher will hand out an assigned reading of a new topic,
for the learner to read, and prepare themselves for the following class. The learner
will need to take notes on the article, at least one page written on what they
learned to be turned in at the start of class the following day.
