Scientific Inquiry
Journal Reflection 6
Thinking back to Education 101, I remember doing my 20hr observation in a Columbus East
High School. It was an experience I did like the idea of teaching just one subject all day long and
the only break was lunch, but I didnt get the feel what it would be like teaching in an elementary
school and lost that experience. Unfortunately I had to wait another two years before I could,
when I finally got into a second grade in an elementary school, it turned out to be quite an
experience. I found a home and intend to teach 2nd grade, the children have such a zest for
learning and even though they can be full of mischief, it makes the day worthwhile. I also
noticed the children can be quite helpful to other children in the class and even when they do get
loud when the teacher wants quiet and they have to move their clothes pin to a higher color,
which shows they broke the quiet rule, they comply with little or no argument. I have seen other
times when they tell their neighbor to be quiet as a way to enforce the teachers rule. The children
seem to transition well from subject to subject and are learning inquiry well. I also made note
how well inquiry works in an elementary school, the children seem to take to it without any
problems, if there is, it is usually trying to stop them from asking inquiry questions. My
observations have shown me I picked the right grade to teach, and when you get thumbs up about
teaching 2nd graders, from 2nd graders when they ask you what grade youll teach and they find
out its 2nd grade it becomes a rather excellent recommendation.
