But Jesus Had Two Dads
People who can find a person of the strictly the same sex to be physically attractive are
homosexual. The topic on homosexuality is heavily broadcasted in the media today, but it
focuses almost entirely on the legalization of same sex marriage and not very often on the
viewpoint of the Catholic Church. The Catholic Church stresses the fact that God created all
human beings the same in His image, yet when it comes to love the Church, those, who desire to
get married to someone they love of the same sex, are not allowed to do so. Although the
Catholic Church currently does not actively go out of its way to oppress people who are
homosexual, the act of not allowing them the beautiful sacrament of marriage is a significant
segregation between heterosexual couples who are in love and homosexual couples who are in
love. The Catholic Church and the federal government of the United States, strongly manifesting
this segregation, wrongly inflicts oppression to homosexual couples.
Currently in the United States of America, same sex marriages are not recognized on a
national scale as a constitutional marriage. A constitutional marriage, a "traditional" family,
provides benefits for the family. An apparently "traditional" family would be a nuclear family in
the Catholic Church: a mother, a father, and children, raised by the mother and father. Some of
the benefits that are government issued to legally recognized marriage are that the couple can fill

out joint income tax returns, which can financially help any family. Another benefit nationally
granted to "traditional" families is the medical benefit of visiting the spouse at a hospital. There
are other ways that same sex marriages, if they are not legally recognized, are segregated among
the "traditional" families who are, such as buying a house in "families only" zones. If a same sex
couple, who already have adopted kids and are raising them as a family, want to buy a house,
they would not be allowed to buy a house in a "families only" zone, simply because they would
not be recognized as a family at all. They clearly would not be a very orthodox family, but their
familial morals could be the same as those of a nuclear family, if not better. The fact that the
family was raised by people of the same gender or sex does not mean that because of that, their
morals would be compromised or not present at all. What effects the morals on which a family is
brought up on is the personality of the parents. The personality of any person is completely
independent from their sexual orientation. So, challenging the validity of the morals of a family
raised by an unconstitutionally recognized married homosexual couple would be unsound,
because the background of the couple would be unknown. According to that logic, not allowing
the family to buy a house simply because the family is raised by a same sex couple for the
gamble of the morality of the family is not a very valid reason. In extending the segregation and
oppression of same sex couples to a national scale, not allowing same sex marriage to be
constitutionally recognized as unsound. The Constitution of the United States of America clearly
states that all men are equal. "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created
equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these
are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.--That to secure these rights, Governments are
instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, --That

whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the
People to alter or to abolish it." (Preamble). The very basis of the country, what the country was
built upon, is the Preamble of the Constitution of the United States. A person's right in the pursuit
of happiness can be, and usually is, finding their life partner and marrying them. Most state wide
governments in America are, according to the Constitution, "becoming destructive" in denying
homosexual couples their right to pursue happiness and not allowing their marriages to be fully
and publicly recognized by the government, when, in fact, in doing so, the government is putting
itself up to give "the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it." The government attempts to
furthermore justify its laws against the legalization of the marriage homosexual couples by
stating that it simply "is not natural" and that it goes against natural law, which may not be a
completely sound argument but in and of itself is a valid argument, if it would not push
politicians to then bring up religion. Politicians have used the argument that it is not God's Will
for same sex marriage to even manifest. This completely invalidates the argument because it
goes against the separation of the Church and the state. The inclusiveness of the morals based on
the Catholic Church for the argument of the government is a detriment to their argument.
In truth, the arguments made by the Catholic Church against the validity of homosexual
marriages are better developed than those of the government. One argument that the Church uses
often is that in order for a marriage to be valid both of the spouses must be willing to have and
raise children, yet a couple who cannot have children are still allowed to be married if they agree
to adopt children and at least be willing to raise them as Catholics. If a couple of the same sex
are willing to raise children as Catholics they should be allowed the same exception. The Church
rebuts this claim with that the couple cannot fully give themselves up to each other since,

genetically, they are not compatible. But, the origin and reason behind the couple giving
themselves wholly up to each other is to bond intimately. Same sex couples can bond intimately
in ways in that they are genetically compatible, such as hand holding. Taking the argument
further, the Church uses the Bible for evidence that God condemns homosexuality. Interestingly
enough, in the Bible, God gives full consent to the Hebrews to buy servants and, furthermore,
choose a wife for them. He also said that if the couple were to have children, the children would
not belong to their parents but to their parents' master, and if their parents were to be freed, the
children would stay with the master. The conclusion with this piece of evidence is that the Bible
is full with outdated socially accepted behaviors. It is very likely that the condemning of
homosexuality and same sex marriage is an outdated behavior from thousands of years back. The
modern Catholic Church has changed its views on behaviors such as polygamy acceptance,
which goes against the Seventh Commandment, thou shall not commit adultery. Homosexuality
does not go against any of the commandments.
God ultimately says that human beings are all created equal in His image. Denying
humans the right to their happiness, the right to marry who they want, is oppressing and
segregating them. Both the passive government of the United States of America and the Catholic
Church take some part in the oppression and segregation of same sex couples by denying them
the right that every human is born with: the right to love freely.
