I. Performance Objectives (Learning Outcomes):
A. The 2nd grade students will be able to recognize ways in which they can
reduce, reuse and recycle materials from watching an educational video.
B. The 2nd grade students will demonstrate their knowledge of learned material
by taking a guided notes quiz.
C. The 2nd grade students will express the action or actions they will take in
keeping their environment clean by engaging in written expression.

19 print outs of the guided notes quiz
1 print out with highlighting of keywords & small word bank for Martin
1 large (ready-made for class lesson date) white circle paper cutout
blue & green paint
paper plates for children to place hands in paint

C. Big Idea: What will we do in order to keep our environment clean? In regards
to reducing, reusing & recycling?
IV. Implementation
A. Introduction
1. As an introduction, students will be asked by the teacher to
name the three kinds of pollution and what kinds of things
pollution can harm.
a. The teacher will then say that today the class will be
focusing strictly on the ways the class will promise to
do their part in helping to keep the environment clean
of pollution.
B. Development
1. The teacher will briefly review with the class what was taught
during the previous lessons.
2. The teacher will pull up a video on the white board for the
students to watch.(link to video listed under resources)
3. Before starting the video, the teacher will give each student a
guided note worksheet (will be graded as quiz) that students
will fill out while watching the video.(see attached)
4. The teacher will play the video and allow students to work
freely and independently on their worksheets.
5. Students will be given about 5-10 minutes after video to finish
their worksheets.
6. The teacher will collect the students quizzes.
7. The teacher will instruct students to write on a sheet of paper a
sentence or two that states their promise to the environment
(what they will promise to do to keep their environment clean)
8. Teacher will have a precut large white circle at the front of the
room on a table and paper plates with green and blue paint.
9. Students will come up one at a time and share with the class
their promise and then put a blue and/or green handprint onto
the white paper.
10. Once each student has put their handprints onto the white circle
sheet of paper, it should be filled and look as if it were the
Earth.
11. This, along with the students promises will be shown on a
bulletin board for students for further reflection on their time
learning about pollution.

C. Closure
1. The teacher will bring out the movie, The Lorax and have
students watch that
a. Though there may not be enough time to finish it, even
at the end of the school day, they may start it and then
finish it another day.

D. Accommodations/Differentiation
1. For Martin, a student with a learning disability in reading and
comprehension, I will give a print out of the guided notes quiz
with highlighted keywords and a small word bank at the top.
2. If not having done so prior, I would place Martin at a chair or
desk closer to the front of the class, nearer to the white board
while watching the video.
E. Assessment/Evaluation Plan
1. Formative:
a. The teacher will observe each students attentiveness
throughout watching the video
b. The teacher will assess students based on the
completion of the guided notes quiz.
i. How many attempted? How many correct? Did
any students care for or ask for assistance?
c. Students will also be assessed on their participation in
writing and painting activity.
2. Summative
