- SCO: N7: Demonstrate, concretely and pictorially, how a given number
can be represented by a variety of equal groups with and without
singles.

- I can group numbers in equal groups with or without singles.
- I can participate in the activity.

Lesson Rationale:
- This lesson is designed to teach students about grouping numbers into parts
that are equal with or without singles.

- Students will find their seats on the
carpet.
Warm-Up
- Students will sit quietly on the carpet
looking up at the SMARTBOARD.

between 0 and 9.
If the number is there the teacher
will move the correct number to
that spot.

Second answer: 13 + 5 = 18.
Extra: 12 + 4 = 16

Explore
- Teacher will use the smartboard activity
with 8 cookies.
- Teacher will explain that they need to
find a way to group the cookies so there
are equals.
- Teacher will repeat this with 11 cookies.
- Repeat with 13.
Practice
- Teacher will invite students to find their
seat at the desks.
- Teacher will pass out the whiteboards
and counters for each student.
- Teacher will use how a number on the
smartboard for the students to see.
- Practice: 10 cookies, 15 cookies, 17
cookies.
- Teacher will be checking.
- Repeat several times.
- Monitor students and see who is getting
it.

their whiteboard until the teacher sees
it.
