The Equine Assisted Growth and Learning

Association is none of the first organization to
address mental health therapies with horses of
those who need it. Through the EAGALA, you can
get professionally certified to provide these
services to people in a community. For those who
want to become trained they provide a place to
register and all the processes you need to become
among the members certified by the EAGALA.
They also provide a brief description that tells
what they consider to be Equine Assisted
Psychotherapy and Equine Assisted Learning is as
they set the global standard. This site would also
give you information if you were looking for a
barn near you that has someone certified by the
EAGALA. For those who dont live in the United
States, they provide information by regions where
you can read news articles from those areas about
the EAGALA. Some people may want to do a
specific type of therapy like for those who are in
the military. The EAGALA provides a special
certification to base off the military community for
those that need help.

Thoughts/Conne

I think that site
will be very
useful to me as it
provides much
information on
their format as
they have set the
global standard.

With the location
part of the
website I could
possibly find
someone who
does this near
Charlotte for an
interview.

Also with their
research I could
use it as
secondary
sources.
The child

the paper will be
good, as it will
show that both

I could include

This article was a done by three doctors on

women that have been abused participating in
equine assisted psychotherapy. Equine Assisted
psychotherapy is known to help people who have
been abused so these doctors wanted to put proof
out there. The main purpose of this experiment
was to see how equine assisted psychotherapy
helped those women who have been abused.
However, the doctors say the research cannot be
totally accurate portrayal as the research was only
done on three of the seven, as the others did not
meet their criteria for their research subject until
after the experiment was done. The women that
participated found that being around the horses
gave them power back that they thought had been
taken for their abuser. They could see themselves
through the horse as horses show the emotions of
those around them. For many of these women, just
being around the horses made them want to start
living again. After doing this experiment this let
the doctors realize that this type of therapy could
help improve self-esteem and confidence in abuse
victims. They doctors have also found the price of
equine assisted psychotherapy is about the same
price as talking therapy. Unfortunately, most
health services do not cover equine assisted
psychotherapy.

Experiential education is when the educators

interact directly with the people learning to help
build their knowledge and contribution to their
community. These people can range from camp
counselors, teachers and mental health
professionals. This is when experiences are
selected that allows people to reflect upon it later
in life like decision-making. Once they complete
their experiences, this allows them to examine and
evaluate their values.
Nilson provides a personal prospective on how
equine assisted therapy helped her in a time that
she was going through depression. She also tells
that you dont have to been around horses all your
life as she went for a long period not around
horses.
The Recovery Ranch provides their model of what
they consider to be equine assisted
psychotherapy. They also provide what they
consider to be good conditions or illnesses that
they think equine assisted psychotherapy would
help. They talk specifically at how the horses are a
major part of the therapy. The source was not very
long.

Can compare the

models of AEE
and EAP.

This is one of the only groups in New Jersey to

offer this type of psychotherapy. Their model is
based off of the EAGALA model. People
participating see their issues that they have been
hiding while interacting with the horse. The
clients see their horse partner change as their
moods do. They offer individual, group, family,
and family sessions. This source was pretty brief.

This article was about a couple that was having

problems in their relationship and decided to try
equine assisted psychotherapy to see if it would
help. After just a few sessions the couple could
figure out their problems and was able to get to
work on them. One of first few things the therapist
had them do was walk a horse together without
communicating through three obstacles that they
labeled as their problems. Their problems were
communication, lies and secrets, and the other
women. Through the horse they were able to see
how maybe one problem affected the other
through the horse. As the secret and lies obstacle
made the wife very emotional. After completing
the course they realized that all of their problems
were connected. Their major problem was
communication, which then lead to their lies and
secrets finally lead to the other women. They
found the therapy to be effective and were
surprised at how the horse was a major
contributor. The horse was able to bring the real
problems to the surface and was able to deal with
those problems to better their relationship.
