PowerUp is a Houston ISD initiative to transform teaching and learning. The PowerUp program has three main components; Technology, the "HUB," and personalization.

Technology - HISD aims to equip every high school student with a laptop by the 2015-2016 school year. As a phase-2 PowerUp school, Reagan students will be receiving their laptops this January 12, 2015.

The "HUB" - The "HUB" is a digital teaching and learning platform that will become the center for collaboration, curriculum, instruction and communication for all HISD staff. In addition, the HUB will eventually become a place where instructional resources and assignments are posted and completed by students. Students will be able to tailor their classes to their own personal learning style, and parents will be able to track their children's progress.

Q: What is required for students to participate?

A: Students and Parents are required to sign a “laptop

loan agreement” and pay a non-refundable payment of $25 (cash or money order). The form and payment can be submitted to Ms. Mesa, or Ms. Galindo in the main office.

Q: Do students really need a laptop?

A: Reagan educators believe that the 1-to-1 technology provided by the PowerUp initiative will pave the way for transformational learning and success for our students. Because of these convictions, Reagan educators are

designing curriculum, instruction, activities, and assessments for the second part of the school year with the expectation that ALL students will have a laptop and

access to the “HUB.” Q: How will PowerUp benefit students?

A: The initiative empowers students to become drivers of their own learning and connects them with resources, people, ideas, and opportunities far beyond the four walls of the classroom. Laptops open up new avenues for student research, problem-solving, collaboration, and creative expression.

Personalization - Colleges and employers now want innovative, creative thinkers who can solve

problems and apply their knowledge to new challenges. In order to create these types of students, educators at HISD must work to

personalize learning for each child’s unique needs,

abilities, and preferences.

also be able to contact teachers, and view assignments and other instructional materials that their children have access to.

Q: So… Why PowerUp?

A: Like our student’s parents, the faculty and staff at Reagan High School, believe our students deserve every opportunity develop the skills they need to succeed in this changing world. PowerUp, and the 1-to-1 laptop initiative represents an important and integral step in supporting our students to be prepared for success in the 21 st century.
