LESSON PLAN: BASIC VOCABULARY


Description: In his lesson plan, the students will be introduced to basic vocabulary
according to the unit.
Teacher: Rebekah Lockaby
Subject: Spanish I
Grade: 9-12
Duration: Varies
Indiana Academic Standards:
Encourage the use of the language and cultural understanding for selfdirected purposes.
Practice appropriate pronunciation and intonation.
Describe practices, products, and perspectives of Spanish-speaking culture.
Report on basic family and social practices of the target culture, and describe
contributions.
Understanding Spanish language and culture outside of the classroom.
Objectives:

Students will be able to properly use vocabulary in a sentence with no errors.


Students will be able to understand the meaning of the vocabulary beyond
the word itself with no errors.
Students will focus on pronunciation and form new sentences using correct
grammar with no errors.
They will have an understanding of the Spanish-speaking culture and
understand the purpose of learning cultural differences.

Prior Knowledge: None


Materials:

Dry-erase board
Student handout with list of vocabulary and examples, including space for
drawings

Procedure:

Opening Set/Anticipatory Set: Make any necessary changes to the


classroom setting. Provide a brief explanation of the lesson.
Instructional Sequence: Hand out the list of vocabulary to be learned by
student, and properly pronounce each word. Have the students repeat the list
out loud several times. Then proceed to write the list on the board drawing
pictures of each word, and making sure the students also have time to draw
the word instead of the English translation of the word. The students will have
to pay close attention to each drawing in order to understand the noun, sort
of like Pictionary.
Independent Practice: Give the students additional time at the end of class
to complete their drawings independently.

Closure: Provide a brief recap of what is expected. Assign homeworkworkbook pages that align with state standards.

Adaptations:

Recognize different cultural backgrounds.


Recognize students specific learning styles to incorporate them into the
lesson.
Recognize student ability to make sure this basic knowledge is learned
thoroughly

Assessment of Students:

Do students understand the meaning of the words in spanish?


Can the students use this vocabulary independently with minimal effort?
Are they using correct pronunciation?
Do they understand the purpose of learning cultural differences?

Assessment of Lesson Plan: Provide feedback of student achievement in learning


objectives.
