Biology Syllabus

Course Description: This course will focused on biology which is the study of life and living
things. This includes small molecular processes like photosynthesis, cellular respiration and
larger processes like the hydrologic cycle in ecology. In this course students will be exposed to
new scientific language, concepts, technology and research. Students will also be expected to
learn and writer lab reports. Some of the concepts we will be covering this semester include:

Organelles

What is Science?

Photosynthesis
Cellular respiration
DNA
RNA and gene expression

Macromolecules
Ecology
Classification
Genetics

Materials:

Composition notebook for lab


Composition notebook for class notes and assignment
Color pencils
Pen and pencils
textbook
Any other material upon teacher request

Be prepare- Bring all the necessary material to class, including homework.


Be polite- Respect school property and individuals around you.
Be productive- Participate in class activities, use your time wisely, and follow instruction.
Be problem solver- Ask for help when is necessary, and help others when needed.
Be punctual- Get to class on time and meet homework and projects deadlines.

Expectations:
1. Attend class daily and participate in class activities, class discussion and laboratory
exercises.
2. Pay close attention to class videos and lectures by taking notes.
3. Spend time outside the class to do the class readings, homework, projects and lab reports.
Discipline policy:
Students failing to meet the class rules and expectations will face the following consequences
that follow school policies and procedures of giving students

Grading scale:
90% -100%= A
80%- 89%= B
79%-70%= C
69%-60%= D
59%-0%= F
Students grade will be assessed by students lab reports, presentations, tests, quizzes, and
homework assignments and research papers. The students grade will based on a point system
were test and quizzes will be 60%, classwork 20%, labs 20% and homework 10% of the
students grade.
Extra help:
Students struggling in class are welcome to come to me before school or after school to obtain
the extra help they need. However, students are encourage to form study groups study or to help
each other out in concepts they might not understand.
Absences:
There will be numerous of laboratory exercises and projects in class, so absences can jeopardize
the students success in class. It will become students responsibility to find out their missing
work. The students can ask the teacher or a classmate about the work they missed before and
after school but not during class time.
Excused absences: Students will be allow to make up the work based on how many days they
were absent. After students has exceeded the days they were absent the students work will not be
accepted and student will receive a zero for the work.
Unexcused absences: Students will receive a zero for their work. However, I am open to give
partial credit to some assignment depending on the circumstances.
Tardies:
Student not sitting in their assign seat by the time the bell rings will be marked as tardy. Frequent
tardies will result in negative consequences that could potentially affect students participation
grade.
Late work:
Will not be accepted. Exception for late work will be made depending on the circumstances.
