I believe that the Health Promotion Standard that my work sample showed was advocacy.
The Health Promotion Standard advocacy is when the health promoter understands,
responds to, and interacts with the larger political, social, economic, legal, and cultural
context that affects health promotions. The event my group and I planned and implemented
aligns with the advocacy standard because to begin the process we had to meet with
members of the community to gain sponsors. The sponsors helped with advertising our
event as well as financially supporting us. As a group we chose a more serious health topic.
So we partnered with UW-Platteville Counseling Services to gain knowledge on the topic.
Their partnership assisted us in interacting with a larger population. Another step in the
process of planning the 5K was contacting multiple city officials. They aided in approving
our event as well as making sure it went smoothly.

Alignment
This work sample best aligns with KS1.d: demonstrates knowledge of resources. The
KSD demonstrates knowledge of resources is when the candidate actively seeks materials
and resources to enhance instruction by utilizing workplace resources as well as other
resources available outside the workplace. This KSD best aligns with my work sample,
Mental Health and Suicide Awareness 5k, because it was my duty to reach out to members
of the community to utilize the resources they had. The resources I sought out for varied
from sponsorship funds to assisting with road traffic. My ability to seek out resources in
the community helped to ensure the event was safe and ran smoothly.
PERSONAL REFLECTION
What I learned about teaching/training from this experience.
From this event planning and implementing experience, I learned how important it is to reach out
and utilize everything the community has to offer. Originally, I wasnt aware of how much time
and energy went into planning an event. I was often challenged to think on my toes to plan for
the unexpected. This ensured the safety of participants as well as success for the event.
