Comprehensive curriculum planning is essential when teaching

students mathematics in the classroom (Siemon, 2011). This
requires a broad knowledge of the learners and collaboration
between teachers (Siemon, 2011). The mathematics planning
document created includes a term plan, weekly plans, lesson plans,
assessment and a summary of potential learning issues which may
arise within the classroom. The unit was designed for year two term
two. The plan was created using a plethora of mathematics
recourses and the ACARA mathematics curriculum (2015).
When creating the

term carful consideration of

the

ACARA

mathematics curriculum (2015) was implemented. The students

would be engaging with number and place value, chance and data
and measurement and geometry-shapes which adheres to ACARA
mathematics curriculum (2015). A strong and detailed term plan is
part of the foundation to teaching mathematics (Bobis, Lowrie &
Mulligan, 2009). The term plan was designed with consideration of
the teacher and details when concepts will be taught, what learning
outcomes are expected and when assessment will take place.
The weekly plans give an insight into to each lesson that will take
place, the assessments and resources. The lesson plans are
engaging and challenge the learners. It is important to design all
mathematics lessons to be engaging for the learners (Siemon,
2011).
When teaching mathematics potential learning issues may arise
(Siemon, 2011). A list of potential learning issues was created which
included a referenced section to address the issues. It is important
to address learning issues with learners as soon as they arise (Bobis,
Lowrie & Mulligan, 2009).

The diagnostic, formative and summative assessments were created

to be implemented at appropriate times to assess the learners
knowledge and understanding. Well-Designed assessments are vital
for the teaching of mathematics as it is highly important to know
what knows about a concept before, during and after teaching
(Siemon, 2011).
