Standard 5.0 Professional and Ethical Behavior Element 5.2 Model Ethical Behavior Activity: Deliver a 1 hour presentation to current teachers and staff within local school systems on the mandatory reporting laws for child abuse and neglect, dating relationships between staff and students, bullying and harassment, and suicide Time: 1 hour Artifact: Agenda from presentation. Description: The presentation developed in ELCC 5.1 will not be presented to the staff at Allegany High School until the fall of 2015, prior to the start of the school year. However, through my school law class with Dr. Root, I was given the opportunity to make the presentation to the graduate students currently working on their masters degree in Educational Leadership. I presented the agenda, the materials, and the activities created to the group. I was able to receive positive feedback both from Dr. Root and the graduate students. The presentation was limited to a one hour presentation. Reflection: In ELCC 5.2, modeling ethical behavior is a must for a school administrator. An administrator that would not act and behave professionally or ethically could in no way expect a staff to act in a professional or ethical manner. Many things that occur within a school day behind the administrators office doors go unseen by the faculty at large. Due to confidentiality, a classroom teacher may never have the opportunity to see an administrator demonstrate ethical behavior when dealing with a problem in the office. However, an administrator that has a well designed faculty in-service that addresses professional and ethical behavior, will be able to share with staff members his or her own professional and ethical values. I truly enjoyed putting this presentation together and was especially pleased to have the opportunity to present to current teaching professionals in a leadership class. The positive feedback and support I received was a great benefit to me as I am evaluating my current skills in the area of leadership.
