This lesson is an introduction to the novel study
Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher. Prior to this
lesson students have learned about pathos, ethos, and logos
along with other persuasive techniques. Students have also
learned the importance of demographics in advertising. The
students will then use this knowledge to analyze the Make
It Happy Super Bowl commercial. Following this activity,
students will create their own Super Bowl commercial that
addresses bullying and/or cyberbullying.

Reflection:
This would be a great mini lesson for students for a homework
assignment (as long as students understand persuasive techniques.
The video is short enough that it students will not be bogged down by
the assignment. However, I would prefer for the class to have more of
a discussion on what bullying and cyberbullying rather than giving
them all of the information at once. Nevertheless, I feel using a video
clip (i.e. a Super Bowl commercial) is a great way to foster student
engagement and motivation.
