Re:

My past writing to future workforce writing

Comments: Carefully read thoroughly. I apologize if the format does not suit your
expectations.
Mr. Baird,
I have recently noticed the major shifts I am going to make in my writing
sphere. In this memo, I will describe how this will be helpful to my
chosen field.
First of all, in the past, most of the writing I did involve a lot of feelings.
For example, Literally narratives. In this type of writing, I would
describe what I went through. While doing this, I would use words that to
coax the reader into feeling what I felt. As a natural writer, I would
dramatize the plots to sound more convincing. Additionally, I wrote
research essays dealing with issues going on in the world. One of my
famous papers, Math in America, dealt with the issue in our education
system. In that paper, I emphasized how the system is inadequate to
equip our students with sustainable math skills, due to our lackluster
teachers in the system.
While writing in the past, my primary audiences were my peers and my
teachers. In all of the papers I wrote, the goal was to persuade the reader
to agree to my points and take action. Similarly, the goal of technical
writing is to cajole readers into taking an action. The difference between
them, though, is that occasionally in technical writing, I will have to tell
the reader to take action. I wont have the same freedom as I did before
in my prior writing. As a result, I will have to make my papers short and
laconic.
Mr. Baird, I am writing this memorandum to inform you of my past
writing experiences. In my past writing I wrote using emotions to get my

Memorandum
points across. In the future, I wish to learn the realm of technical writing.
This class will help me do that by teaching me the different genres,
ethical, legal and political dimensions that are out there in the workforce.
Furthermore, because I am a science major, it is not surprising that I lack
oral communication skills. I would rather sit and deal with mathematical
calculations than ask a lady out for lunch after a business meeting. In this
course, I look forward in being the variable that cancels out in that
equation.
Best,
Jiriberi Bucanayandi
