Demonstrate their understanding of narrative text types
Demonstrate their understanding of how life has changed from the time of their
grandparents to them
LESSON OBJECTIVES
By the end of this lesson students will
1. Relate a story about their parents or grandparents time
2. Present their ideas through a oral presentation
INQUIRY QUESTION FOR LESSON
How have the roles and structure of families changed or remained the same in the past and
present, and what impacts these changes?
STUDENTS PRIOR KNOWLEDGE
Understanding of narrative text types (work continued on in English lessons)
Understanding of oral presentations
PREPARATION:

Move desk to leave a large space for presentation
LESSON PROCEDURE
Motivation (Orientating Phase) 5 minutes
Teacher will engage the class through presenting their personal narrative and will be in
costume with the class (for lesson one)

Procedure (Enhancing Phase)


The presenting students names will be pulled out at random
Students will present their presentation to their peers
Conclusion (Synthesising Phase)
At the end of the students presentation, a question will be posed based on the unit inquiry
question (The question will be recorded on the rubric and a comment on their answer they
provide)
Students will be thanked for their contribution
Students will be reminded of who is presenting next week
DIFFERENTIATION OF LEARNING
Students with EAL/D to perform activity with teacher aide for extra support
Have students who require extra attention or may disrupt the class sitting close to you
during group time
Allow students with physical ailments to sit on chairs during group time if required
Encourage all students to be engaged in class discussions and collaborative work.
ASSESSMENT OF LEARNING/LESSON OBJECTIVES
1. Assessment for learning: Reflect on students engagement throughout their peers
presentation (This will be recorded through a checklist)
2. Assessment of Learning: Students presentation will be assessed on the criteria outline
on the rubric (The rubric states a set of criteria on one side and the teacher will
comment on whether or not the students have met this and to what extent)
