UNIT/CHAPTER OBJECTIVE/GENERALIZATION/BIG IDEA:


This lesson is the use of timelines and historical passages to summarize the history events and political figures as listed
in TN social studies 3.16.

LESSON OBJECTIVE:
Given a list of dates of events in the history of Martin Luther King Jr., student will construct a timeline.
Given computer, student will construct time line of the life and events of Martin Luther King Jr.
Given website to research, student will be able to demonstrate knowledge of Martin Luther King Jr. to answer
questions with 80% accuracy out of 100.

TN- Social Studies Use timelines and historical passages to summarize the history of a region, including events,
inventions/inventors, artists, writers, and political figures. (C, G, H, P, TN)

BACKGROUND and RATIONALE:


Student will have researched for knowledge, dates, and events of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
The critical part of lesson is for student to design time line with dates in sequential order.
This lesson will connect and build on lessons on civil rights.
More lessons of history and famous people to follow.
Different lessons and assessments will be performed to accommodate all learners.

PROCEDURES AND TIMELINE:


Introduction:
Begin lesson by handing out event cards for students to document dates for timeline from video.
View Martin Luther King video by BrainPop ( 4 minutes)
Handout Cornell Notes and discuss vocabulary words. (10 minutes)
Students will work in pairs for 1 day /55 min.

Procedures:

Prior to Computer (15 minutes)


Teacher Procedure:
1. After introduction, view video, and teacher
and students answer quiz on BrainPop together.

Teacher Procedure.
Have students to open internet browser to complete
Time line at teachnology.com with dates.
Handout Vocabulary sentence practice sheets

Student Procedure:
1, Students will take quiz and email
Results to teacher.
2. Students will view video to complete

Closure: The lesson will close with review. Students will give information learned from lessons by
volunteering at the end of class.
