Sight Reading Music for third concert

Sight Reading for May 14 concert.


Materials:
Divertimento in D- Mozart
Waltz from Der Rosenkavalier- Strauss
Prayer- Bloch
Rock:

Hallelujah- Jeff Buckley


Let it Be- The Beatles
Firework- Katy Perry
Thunderstruck- ACDC

This week the focus is on sight reading skills such as keeping ones
place even if not able to play a passage of music, continued attempt to
use vibrato, balance and blend. Focus is on sense of ensemble. These
rehearsals proceed with work as needed while performing repertoire.
Middle School Strings:

Overview:

Sight Reading for May 14 concert

Materials:

The Flower Duet- Delibes


Winter from the Four Seasons- Vivaldi
Carmen- Bizet
Theme from Jurassic Park- Williams
Lucio Silla- Mozart

This week the focus is on sight reading skills such as keeping ones
place even if not able to play a passage of music, continued attempt to
use vibrato, balance and blend. Focus is on sense of ensemble.
Rehearsals proceed with work as needed while performing repertoire.
5 Strings
Overview: Preparation for second concert 4/30, 7 pm Burris
Auditorium
Materials:

Bow and Arrows, Hillcrest Impressions


Rehearsals will focus on major concepts of intonation,
counting and note reading, and incorporating. Bow Hold.
Re-check all bow holds for shape, 4th finger placement and
thumb placement, and correct posture. All students should
be using standard thumb placement.

4 Strings
Overview: Preparation for second concert, 4/30, 7 pm Burris
Auditorium
Materials:

Hilarity & Carousel, Bow and Arrows, Hillcrest Impressions


Rehearse Hilarity and Carousel. Review scale rehearsal in D
major, assessment on note/finger/string identification.
Reinforce bow distribution concepts to encourage use of
full bows and correct posture.

2 strings
Overview: Preparation for second concert, 4/30, 7 pm Burris
Auditorium

Review page 12 and begin page 13. Rehearsals will focus


on counting and note reading. Select individuals each day
to perform four bar excerpts to assess note reading skills.
Technical concepts to be addressed:
Review: Bow Hold re-check all bow holds for shape and
bow distribution.
C Shape to peek through. Glide hand position up
fingerboard as a unit keeping C shape intact.
Counting exercises call and response rhythms, using
adjacent strings and adding 1st finger notes.
3 strings
Overview: Preparation for second concert, 4/30, 7 pm Burris

Read page 19. Rehearsals will focus on major concepts of
bow lifts, counting and note reading.
Technical concepts to be addressed:

Practice 1st and 2nd fingers with PPT.
Counting exercises call and response rhythms, using
adjacent strings and adding 1st finger notes.
MS General Music
Overview: Note Reading/writing, creating jingles/original
works of music with the PVC Instruments.
Materials: PVC Pipe Instruments, Ipad
Learn the notes of the treble and bass clef, how to create a
treble and bass clef and how to compose music. Create
and original jingle about Burris Lab School using their PVC
pipe instruments and notate it on staff paper.
