One Hundred Loose Leaf Lessons in Lettering with Pen & Brush by William Hugh Gordon; 1920.
Mr. Gordon not only created and introduced the Speedball pen line in 1915, he was also published as a lettering expert apart
from the Speedball project. Depicted is a folio of practice pages capitalizing, no doubt, upon the popular success of his
book, Modernized Methods in
the Art & Practise of Lettering for
Commercial Purposes two years
earlier, in 1918. This presentation
likely contributed to the decision,
around the same time, to issue a
smaller loose leaf set of lettering
lessons for Speedball, authored
by Gordons partner, Ross F.
George - eventually the single
name identified with Speedball for
over 40 years.
