Models of Instruction

in
Education Technology

WHAT ARE MODELS OF INSTRUCTION IN

EDUCATION TECHNOLOGY (ET)?
There exist models of education and Instructional technology
used in eff ectively developing, implementing and evaluating
instructions (Danks, 2011).
There are three common models in use, viz. Kent Model,
ADDIE model and Dick and Carey model.
There are steps outlined in each model which guides the user
to designing eff ective instructions.

A DDIE FOR MODELS OF LEARNING

ANALYSIS:
Objectives
To understand the diff erent models of instruction used in education technology.
To learn about how to apply models of instruction in developing, implementing and
evaluating instructions.
Proper understanding of the needs of the receiving individuals needs to be reached when
instructions are designed.

Audience
Instructors in management, instructional design teams and subject matter experts
(SMEs), coaches or anyone in charge of designing instructions.

Circumstance to use
Most of the steps in the models are done before the beginning of the teaching sessions.
The implementation and evaluation steps comes during and after teaching sessions.

DD IE FOR MODELS OF LEARNING

DESIGN:
Involves designing the educational model using the models of learning and theory
listed in the next slide.

DEVELOPMENT:
Development of instructional materials based on the models of learning.

ADDIE MODEL
There are 5 steps in the ADDIE model:
Analysis;
Design;
Development;
Implementation and;
Analysis.

DICK AND CAREY MODEL

There 10 steps in the Dick and Carey model (Dick and Carey model,
2013).

KENT MODEL
The Kent Model has 9 steps.

Determination of topics, tasks and procedures.

Analysis of learner behaviors and characteristics.
Analysis of task contained in content.
Finding out the objectives of the learner.
Designing of learning and teaching activities.
Seeking out resources for instruction.
Outlining support services.
Outlining evaluations for learner.
Test learners before the instructions are given.

ADD

IE ON MODELS OF LEARNING

IMPLEMENTATION:
Conduct the teaching sessions.

EVALUATION:
Evaluation of the eff ectiveness of each instructional material.

CONCLUSION
Models of learning and instructional design are vitals methods used in
designing eff ective instructional materials.

A host of diff erent methods exist but the most common are the ADDIE,
Dick and Carry and the Kent models.
