Your Country Information

Answer the following questions in detail to get a sense of what your country will be
like. The more detail you use, the more interesting your country will be. In order to
go more in depth with your answers, you may answer these questions on a separate
sheet of paper. Once you have answered all the questions below, use your
developed thoughts to create an exciting presentation for the class.

1. What is the name of your country?

Our country is called Saupatowok, which is derived from the Inuit
language.
2. Where is your country located?
Saupatowok is in the southern part of the Gulf of Alaska and in the
northern part of the Pacific Ocean.
3. Describe the physical geography of your country. Does it have mountains? Is
it an island? Is it landlocked? Does it have multiple regions?
Saupatowok is a large island, around 270,000 square miles (very close
in size to the state of Texas). Saupatowok includes some smaller
islands that surround the main island, but most of these islands are
uninhabitable because of their volcanic activity. Saupatowok has a
small mountain range, a couple of lakes, and several rivers. The island
has a variety of regions, including a mountain rainforest, a cold desert,
bogs, and a taiga region.
4. Describe the climate and vegetation of your country. What kind of weather
does your country usually get? Is it cold and snowy? Is it dry? Is it a desert?
Does it have rain forests? Remember to take your countrys physical
geography into account when discussing its climate.
Saupatowok has many biomes, but the majority of the main island is
temperate coniferous forest. The island has mild summers, anywhere
from 55-75 degrees Fahrenheit, and snowy winters with temperatures
dropping under 20 degrees Fahrenheit. To the west of the mountains is
a large rainforest with rainfall reaching 97 inches annually, but on the
island is a small desert which only gets about 18 inches of annual
precipitation. Most of the trees are conifers, firs, birch, aspen, pines,
and redwoods, which are all mostly found in the mountainous
rainforest (bamboo is common). There are also small plants, vines,
lichens, mosses, bushes, and shrubs, which are found in most areas of
Saupatowok.
5. Discuss the natural resources found in your climate. Do the people in your
country have an abundant energy resource, or are they required to import it?
Do they have resources to export? Do they mine for gold and diamonds?

Where are the resources found in your country; what connections are there to
any landforms?
The island of Saupatowok has many natural resources. There coal and
silver mines in the mountains. The people fish and sell animal hides.
Timber is another abundant natural resource available in the forest on
the main island. There has been some evidence of oil deposits, but the
people have restricted drilling activities to preserve the environment.
Saupatowok exports a portion of these resources, but it is not a main
source of income.
The people of Saupatowok have turned to environmentally friendly
energy sources. Initially coal, timber, and wind were their main energy
sources. Currently they are utilizing energy from rivers, solar, and
geothermal sources as well. The scientists and engineers on
Saupatowok are always looking for new energy sources, and are
currently investigating utilizing energy from the nearby volcanic
islands.
6. Describe the population of your country. Where do people live? Why do they
live there? Does your country have a huge population, or a very small one? Is
your countrys population growing? Why or why not? Do people in your
country migrate a lot or do they stay put? What are some of the push and pull
factors for your country?
The countrys population is close to 22 million people, but it is still
growing. Many people live in the nations capital, which is in a valley in
the northernmost part of the mountains. The majority of the people live
near rivers. The most populated area is around the largest river,
Bigguriba, which flows across the island and into the ocean. The other
common location for citizens is along the coast where Bigguriba
empties into the Gulf of Alaska. Bigguriba is an important source of
water to the people of Saupatowok so most people tend to live near it,
but there are people living near other rivers and lakes or by the
rainforest and the bogs, since all these places have water sources.
Saupatowok not only has a high natural population increase, but also
receives a high number of immigrants. There are many young families
with lots of children, and people have a high life expectancy due to the
healthy lifestyle of the society. People migrate into the country, but
once they settle down they rarely move to another region of the
country. Citizens born in Saupatowok dont tend to move very far from
their place of birth, due to strong family connections. Some push
factors of Saupatowok are that the cost of living can be fairly high due
to the environmentally friendly energy sources and that the winters get
unpleasantly cold. Some of the pull factors for this country are that the
education system is excellent (one of the best in the world), that the

country is very accepting of virtually all cultures, races, and ethnicities,

and that the weather in the summer is very pleasant.
7. Describe your countrys cultural traits. What kind of work do they do? What
are their beliefs? Do they have any interesting ways of doing things? What
kinds of food do they eat? What is the language of your country? Do they
have multiple languages? Are there any challenges to your countrys culture
or cultures?
The occupations of citizens has evolved from agriculture, foraging, and
mining to more prestigious jobs such as engineers, scientists, financial
workers, communication workers, government workers, and technology
based careers. While their work is more STEM based, the people also
believe in the importance of fine arts, which helps them celebrate the
diversities of their different cultures. Cultural variety is a very
important part of Saupatowok.
The education system is the most unique part of Saupatowok. The
schools teach basic academics as well as studying things like culture,
music, and languages. Students can participate in programs that help
them apply their knowledge by sending them on trips to various parts
of the world to apply what they are learning. This program has been
very effective and the country is famous for its amazing education
system.
Food choices, like many other things, vary by cultural or ethnic
background, but the people like to try new foods and also enjoy fast
food on occasions. Being an island there is an abundance of fresh
seafood available. With an emphasis on health many people utilize
organic and natural foods.
Because the schools have an extensive language program, the people
are able to speak multiple languages, but the national language is
English. Many citizens can speak Japanese, Chinese, Spanish, or French.
The biggest challenge in Saupatowoks culture is the diversity. This
diversity makes it difficult for the country to be unified. Many groups
have such different cultures that the country sometimes seems like it is
actually multiple smaller countries. The diversity can also cause many
conflicts in opinion, which has been a challenge for the country as well.
8. Describe the religion of your countrys people. Are they Christians? Are they
Buddhist? Are they polytheistic?
Saupatowok gives their citizens the freedom of religion. However, the
large number of immigrants causes trends in religion. About 35% of the
population is Buddhist, 35% is Christian, 15% is North American or
Polynesian indigenous religions, and 15% belongs to other
denominations.

9. Describe the social structure of your countrys people. Are there social
classes in your country? What are they? Is family Important to the people of
your country? If so, are nuclear or extended families more prevalent?
The social system of Saupatowok is very peculiar. While education is
very important to the people, family is even more important. Many
workers turn down job opportunities offering higher wages because
they want to stay near their extended family. As the population
continues to grow and families get larger this makes available housing
a challenge.
The social classes dont rank groups above the rest as much as mark
them as different. The social classes are split culturally (Indigenous,
Japanese, American, etc.) and occupationally (government officials,
scientists, artists, etc.). However all social divisions are more or less
treated equally.
10.What kind of economic system do the people of your country use? Do they
use capitalism, socialism, or communism? Do they have their own unique
system? What is the money called in your country? Do people even use
money? If not, what is the alternative?
The economic system has wavered between capitalism and socialism,
but is more strongly capitalism. Because of the silver found in the
mountains, the currency is mostly mixtures of silver and other metal
coins and silver certificates redeemable for silver (similar of paper
money). The people also use digital banking with debit cards and
checks. The currency names are:
Ublureak (the base currency, the nickname is Ublu)
Nikkeru (nicknamed Nik, there are 2 in a Ublu)
Pyat (there are 5 pyat in an Ublu)
D (there are 10 ds in an Ublu)
11.What kind of political system does your country have? Is it a monarchy, a
direct democracy, constitutional monarchy, or a dictatorship? Is your country
governed by one big central government, or is it run by many smaller
governments at the local level (Federalism)?
Saupatowok is a representative democracy. The country has 5 major
districts which each have 3 representatives in the federal government.
The federal government consists of a president, vice president,
secretary, and a board of 8 government officers. The people vote for all
of their leaders, and the representatives work closely with the citizens
they are over to ensure that they are represented accurately.
