Reflection Letter
This course UWRT 1101 has been a challenging ride and I learned many concepts that
improved my reading and writing. First and foremost, our teacher was the best teacher that I
could have asked for. Professor Vogt had the perfect balance of strict reinforcement but she also
allowed students to feel very comfortable in the classroom setting. My expectations for this
course were not high because it is an introduction to Writing but our professor really encouraged
students to work hard. In this reflection letter I will talk about my experiences in this course, the
subjects I learned and many more topics of interest.
I have grown tremendously as a writer because Professor Vogt did not allow anyone in
class to slack off. With the succession of each paper, my writing improved remarkably and my
portfolio will clearly express my thoughts of improvement. First, my journal entries improved
with each passing day because of the complexity of the later topics. Second, my Literacy
Narrative helped me express my experiences as a young child and how they influenced my
literacy. The paper helped me express myself, it helped me improve my writing and it helped
create a comfortable setting between the teacher and me. Third, the Rhetorical Analysis
improved the analysis aspect of my writing greatly. Our Professor gave us the freedom to choose
any text or genre to write about so we wouldnt get stuck with an interesting topic. This
assignment was on a higher level compared to my previous assignment. Finally, the Genre Re-

Creation was a more creative project in that the main portion of the project was choose a new
genre. I have never created a Twitter page so this project was a new experience for me and it
helped me see how important social media is in our society. The short paper required for this
project allowed me to expand on the previous assignment. These are the improvements described
in a short manner but they will help me for a lifetime.
I believe my writing is at the best place it has ever been in my life. All of the experiences
I have been through have expanded my reading, writing and literacy. Our teacher kept an open
mind towards each student and she really wanted to make each student better at her specialty. All
of the Genre Analysiss helped create a new style of writing for me because of all the
controversial topics. It really helped me write about things I would not typically write about such
as the gender stereotypes video. As you examine my portfolio you will find out that the best is
saved for last in terms of my writing. The Genre Re-Creation improved my brainstorming skills,
publishing skills, justification skills and my presentation skills. This project really made me
focus on the weaknesses of my writing and I figured out how to overcome them. As the semester
progressed I expected to write better papers because they assignments were becoming tougher
and the deadline was getting shorter. I learned about so many different types of principles of
writing that I will continue to use for my future. The effectiveness of my writing has improved
because Professor Vogts teaching style and I will continue using the techniques she taught me in
my daily life.
The aspect of this class that helped me the most were the group activities and the
presentation. I really need improvement in my communication with others when given a task to
complete and being put into groups almost every class helped greatly. The ability to get along
with others and understand that each individual has a different perspective on answering

questions is a great opportunity and experience. I also liked the fact that each time we had a
group activity we had to explain why we wrote down the answers that we decided upon. The
presentation was probably the most important part of this class in my humble opinion. It is tough
to get in front of people sometimes but I reassured to myself that I was prepared to give the
speech. It really showed me that hard work does pay off in the end and it feels really great when
you finish the task at hand. These are the aspects of class that helped me the most and the aspects
that were most important to me.
My thinking has changed dramatically over the duration of this class because of the
openness of each student and the teacher. She made me think about the problems that people face
in the world and how hard life can be for people all over the world. My perspective has changed
dramatically towards many controversial topics and I want to thank Professor Vogt for the ability
to change cultural norms and or stereotypes. My view of writing has not changed dramatically
because of the importance and value I already give writing. It just clarified how important it is to
express yourself through a paper and how to use proper grammar and principles that just add to
the overall betterment of your work. This class has been my favorite class to go to this semester
because of the amount of learning Professor Vogt taught us. I know that the classroom may have
seemed disinterested during the semester but I dont believe that was the case. I believe you did a
great job this semester and I hope you succeed in all aspects of your life.
