To whom it may concern:

I am writing this letter on behalf of Mary Hartranft, to be included in her professional
portfolio as she anticipates graduation and searches for positions in the field of elementary
education. I have known Mary since August 2013 and directly supervised her in her Lead Resident
Assistant role at Albright Colleges Office of Residential Life since August 2014. Mary is an
independent thinker that I came to depend on heavily during this past year to make decisions on her
own and get things done in my absence; Mary understands the importance of asking questions and
learning along the way but is more than willing to step up and get things done when necessary. She
contributes much to our staff team in her demonstration of what it means to be a leader, her
attention to detail, and her desire to make an impact on the student experience. Mary is passionate
about working with students and seeing that their college experiences are the best they can be,
something that I believe transfers over to her work in elementary education and her goal to see
students of any age learn and grow.
In her role as a Lead RA, Mary currently supervises four Resident Assistants, oversees a
residence hall of approximately 150 students, and participates in a campus-wide on call rotation
where she is responsible for the entire on-campus population of approximately 1,200 students.
Mary completes regular walkthroughs of her building, noting facilities and safety concerns, produces
monthly programming within the hall along with her staff focused on the social and educational
development of residents, and manages a variety of administrative tasks such as the building roster,
room condition reports, and building openings and closings. All of these skills are transferable to
the type of position Mary is looking to transition into in that her position here at Albright College is
focused on working with diverse student populations and ensuring that their needs for safety,
community, and education are all being met.
I sincerely believe that Mary will make an excellent teacher as well as serve as a positive
addition to any faculty team. Mary has a superb work ethic and true passion for education, which
matched with her own educational background and skills, makes her a great candidate for any
teaching position. I hope that you consider Mary in your search. Please feel free to contact me with
any further questions you may have.
Sincerely,
Jennifer L. McCabe
