Objectives
Students will be able to identify what an adjective, verb, and
noun is
Students will be able to highlight adjectives, verbs, and nouns in
song lyrics
Students will be able to sing lyrics to a song in front of the class
as a small group
Procedures
Teachers will show a video clip about parts of speech and
encourage students to sing along and dance
After video, teachers will regain attention of students
Teachers will review with the class what a adjective, verb, and
noun are
Review will last for roughly 5 minutes
Students will be given pieces of construction paper to determine
groups
There will be five groups
Students will move to groups
Students will be instructed to highlight adjectives with a yellow
highlighter
Students will be instructed to highlight verbs with a blue
highlighter
Students will be instructed to highlight nouns with a pink
highlighter
Teachers will allow students roughly 20 minutes to find as many
adjectives, verbs, and nouns as they can
Differentiation
Students will be differentiated based on the colored pieces of
papers that determine groups
Lower level learners will be placed in one group and given a song
with more easily identifiable adjectives, verbs, and nouns
Higher level learners will be placed in one group and given a
more complex song with more difficult adjectives, verbs, and
nouns
Assessment
Students will be assessed on a 3 point scale
3 students actively participated in finding adjectives, verbs,
and nouns. Student joined in the singing of their song. Student
worked effectively with fellow group members.
2 Student somewhat participated in finding adjectives, verbs,
and nouns. Student joined in for some of the singing of their
song. Student worked somewhat effectively with fellow group
members.
1 Student did not participate in finding adjectives, verbs, and
nouns. Student did not join in on the singing of the groups song.
Student did not work effectively with fellow group mates.
