Annotation:
For my learning contract, I was an ambassador for the Center for Student Leadership
Department at Welcome Day. I worked along with my peers of first-year leadership
ambassadors. As an ambassador I spoke to accepted students who can come and get to check out
the school. They also have the opportunity to place their deposit as well. So there is a great
importance as ambassadors to have a positive impact on the students, so that they will be excited
to attend the school and get active on campus. I was to speak of the benefits of being a part of the
Leadership Center, such as the opportunities available are leadership institute, leadership major/
minor, or even the leadership certificate program. Through the Welcome Day, I was able to
practice my skills as a public speaker and ambassador. I had to encourage the accepted students
to be interested and get involved.
I used several of my strengths inspire accepted students to lead and be a part of the
Center for Student Leadership. As an influential leader, I used my woo and communication
strength to attract the attention of student walking by. These strengths helped me explain the
benefits join URI leadership, and even be the reason that some students attend URI being due to
the leadership opportunities. I also relayed on my positivity strength to aid me in building
relationships with the students and the positivity conveyed my passion. Having the ability to
build a relationship and gain the trust of the students greatly impacted their experience. Using my
strength of strategic, I was able to set up a way to initiate conversation with Colby where I would
approach the students with a captivating hook and discuss some points about the leadership
minor, and Colby would then talk about the leadership institute. My arranger strength helped me
organize the information and try my best to improve by adapting to each conversation.
I used my values in action to help create an enjoyable learning environment for the accepted
students. I did so by using my humor and curiosity to keep a positive energy, and to show that I
was curious about their questions and concerns about the leadership department or of the
information given to them. I used bravery and leadership to approach the students. I used my
other values to create positive environment. I used bravery and leadership value to confront the
students for the first time. I was able to influence and encourage students who were accepted to
be a leader. The accepted students seem generally excited to lead and foster their leadership
identity. I was able to use my appreciation of beauty and excellence to enjoy working with the
students and see their hunger and growth to learn more about leadership in such a limited time.
As an ambassador for the Center of Student Leadership Department, I feel that the
ambassadors inspired many accepted students to become leaders. Being able to foster this growth
at such a critical time for these new accepted students is so rewarding. I was able to exercise my
strengths and work with my peers allowing me to establish my leadership identity. I was truly
being a servant leader by dedicating the time to commit to the development of others to help
inspire enrolled students to lead. It was shocking to also see my development of only being a
student leader for just a year, and seeing the rapid amount of growth. I just want to share my
knowledge with others so that others could be inspired to lead and think big.
