In-Class Writings
Making Connections from ICW #12:
ICW #12:
Group conformity phenomenon can be very dangerous in certain situations and
environments. Also known as Mob Mentality. People will act a little more reckless or careless
when around their peers. So much energy is going around everyone in the group, and everyones
just trying to let it out, which can be dangerous or difficult to resolve sometimes. Peoples
actions arent the same as they would be normally, because now they have this group backing
them up giving them the mentality of being irrational and reckless, For example, think back to
when youre watching a sports game and the fans in the stadium. Usually youll see the majority
of people being the home team fans and going crazy, and then youll have a couple fans from the
opposing team just sitting there watching and not screaming or going wild; but if it was flipped
and the opposing team fan had all the other fans in majority hed probably be going wild because
they have that group backing them up.
Reflection:
I connected really well with this In-Class Writing because I was able to use my prior
knowledge on the subject. I dont know where or how I have this knowledge, but its one of
those things that you hear and learn about, and sticks with you. I was able to connect this writing

to situations and scenarios I already knew. There are so many forms and incidents of mob
mentality, and can be related to so many situations.
I chose to talk about the relation to being at a football game. I love seeing how crazy and
out of control fans get watching their teams play. Its really great when we go over topics in class
where you can relate them to experiences in your life.

Reflection:
I chose this ICW because it made me realize all the situations I get into where I sit there
and dont react. I found this to be a real jaw dropper because everyone gets themselves into these
kind of situations, but dont have the courage to stand up and do something about it. I am a little
upset with myself that I let something like that happen to my bestfriend. It made me really realize
how important it is to not be silent.
People have the power to change their silences, but no courage to act on them. If people
were more upfront and open with each other, these things wouldnt happen. This made me realize
how important it is to confront people and face the hard situations you get yourself into. I now
try to live everyday in no silence, meaning I try to be very open and confrontational with
people and the situations that arise in my life.
Developing my thoughts and ideas from ICW #19:

Reflection:
I thought this was In-Class Writing was a great example of making me develop my
thoughts and ideas. I had to think back to a recurring image that I found to be iconic. This ICW
made me engage myself and really think of something that had importance to me. I think that
since this ICW challenged me and made me recall something iconic was a great way of
developing my thoughts though an ICW.
There are so many iconic images people think about today, and so many different
meanings for them. Everyone has a different iconic picture and a different point of view on the
meaning of it. That is why this was a great example of thinking back and having to develop my
thoughts and ideas and its meaning to me.
