GENERAL INFORMATION: Clarion University is a multi-purpose


co-ed institution offering undergraduate and graduate degree
programs to an enrollment of approximately 6,100 students.
Clarion University is a member of the State System of Higher
Education in Pennsylvania.
ACCREDITATION: Clarion University is fully accredited by the
Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools, American
Assembly of Collegiate Schools of Business, the National Council
for Accreditation of Teacher Education, the American Library
Association (Library Science Graduate Program), the National
League for Nursing, the Educational Standards Board of the
American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, National
Association of Schools of Music, Commission on Accreditation for
Respiratory Care, Association of Technology, Management and
Applied Engineering. The University is also a member of the
American Association of State Colleges and Universities, the
American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education,
American Assembly of Collegiate Schools of Business, and is an
Educational Associate of the Institute of International Education.
The Chemistry Department has been approved by the American
Chemical Society. The Paralegal Studies program is approved by
the American Bar Association. The Personal Financial Planning
Program (track) is registered with the Certified Financial Planning
Board of Standards Inc.
CALENDAR: The academic year consists of two 15-week
semesters, a summer term with three sessions, and a four week
winter intersession. All academic credits are semester hours.
COURSE NUMBERING: Courses numbered 100 to 299 inclusive
are primarily for Freshmen and Sophomores. Courses numbered
300 to 499 are for juniors and seniors. Some courses numbered
between 400 and 499 are acceptable for graduate credit. Courses
numbered above 500 carry graduate credit.
EXPLANATION OF GRADES AND GRADE POINT AVERAGE:
The grading system is a letter system with associated quality
points, which are used to compute cumulative grade point
averages.
Quality points received for the semester may be computed by
multiplying the quality points received by the course credit hours
for each course completed and then totaling those values for all
courses. The cumulative grade point average is determined by
dividing the total quality points received by the total credit hours for
courses in which a grade is given.
