Our project was based on an environmental issue, which was recycling.

Recycling is a very big issue, especially at Highland High School. We handed
out surveys for students at highland high to answer some of the following
questions relating to recycling and how they might feel about it. One of the
questions was how do you feel about recycling? 0% out of the 80 students
who took the survey DIDNT circle not important as one of their answers,
which is a good thing. Another question asked was where do you usually
see recycling bins? 81% of the students said that they normally see
recycling bins in their classrooms, and 75% of them say they dont see
recycling bins on the school campus outside often. A follow up question
asked if we had more bins on the campus, would you use them? 95% of
the students said they would recycle their plastics if we had more bins
around our campus outside of their classrooms. This leads to the conclusion
that if the school would provide the campus with recycling bins, more people
would actually use them and we might even see less plastic bottles lying
around on the floor.

The benefits of recycling are tremendous. Just recycling your plastic bottles
can save energy and prevent our oceans and the air we breathe from being
polluted. It can also reduce the amount of waste going into landfills, which can
save us a lot of money as well. The bottles that are recycled then become
reused and made into different things we may use daily. Some supplies made
out of recycled plastics are
Newspapers
Cardboard boxes
Paper plates
Kitty litter
Toilet paper
Bike parts
Automobile parts
and ect.
The consequences of not recycling are very serious. It can lead to pollution,
especially in our oceans, which can cause some sea life to become extinct. It
can also cause landfills to fill up, which would mean the state would have to
pay more money to dig up new landfills because they are getting over filled.
Not recycling can produce greenhouse gas in our atmosphere, which is very
unhealthy for us to intake into our lungs. Not taking care of our environment
cause harm to us, and even our families in the future. Imagine not being able
to take your children to the beach because of the polluted oceans that have
chemicals and junk in them and are dangerous to even swim in. Or not being
able to show your kids ocean life look because most of them have become
extinct due to our lack of selfishness to not recycle plastics. Not recycling can
ruin our future in so many ways, which is why we must conserve energy by
recycling all plastic bottles and not throwing them in regular trash cans or on
the ground.
Recycling can also give our school a better reputation, and we could make
our school a better place. If our school would provide more recycling bins, it
would be a much cleaner place based on the data we have collected from our
fellow classmates. We believe more kids might want to attend our school due
to the clean environment we would have with just recycling all plastic bottles
and putting them to good use. School is basically like our second home, so
we would want to keep it clean, just as we would in our own house we go to
right after school. Having a green, clean environment would make us feel
comfortable in our surroundings and happy with what weve achieved.
