How to tame a wild tongue

I remember I read this chapter in my last

semester in my English class and now I am
reading it again how funny is that.

I remember being sent to the corner of the

classroom for talking back to the Anglo
teacher when all I was trying to do was tell
her how to pronounce my name.

I find it very wrong that she got in trouble for

speaking Spanish and supposedly talking
back which she wasnt all she was doing was
correcting her teacher. The teacher had no
right to be rude.
The teacher is being racist and rude she has
no right to be threatening her in a way where
she is being embarrassed in front of the class.

If you want to be American, speak American.

If you dont like it, go back to Mexico where
you belong.
Chicano Spanish is not incorrect, it is a living
language.

I guess this would mean that speaking

Chicano Spanish is more of living language
that we tend to develop naturally.

A language which they can connect their

identity to, one capable of communicating the
realities and values true to themselves.

Meaning that the language that they speak

they feel comfortable and it shows their
identity and who they really are and what
values they have.
She fought to have a Chicano literature and
be able to become a main focus.

One advisor after the other, semester after

semester, before I was allowed to make
Chicano literature an area of focus.
Deep in our hearts we believe that being
Mexican has nothing to do with the country
one lives in. being Mexican is a state soul not
one of mind, not one of citizenship. Neither
eagle nor serpent, but both. And like ocean,
neither animal respects borders.

I like how she says this because I feel that we

as Mexicans we dont mean citizens of Mexico
its the fact that we feel like we need to be
respected of who we are and just having
these borders they are interfering the
peacefulness.

Language with which we could communicate

with ourselves, a secret language.

I think this means that back then the

Chicanos needed to find something in
themselves which came down to create a
language in a sense where they could
communicate with themselves.

Summary:
In the novel Borderlands La Frontera by Gloria Anzaldua is trying to show us that
speaking Spanish is language that is naturally being developed. I also learned that
when she was in class with Americans and her teacher was being really rude to her
and blamed her for talking back when in reality she was correcting her. Teachers as
American were really racist and rude to the Hispanics back then when there were
issues going on, in a way kind of with the whites and the blacks where they had
certain areas that they wouldnt allow the blacks enter. There were really interesting
things from the text that made me think a lot but because I guess I never realized
what she was trying to prove as a Hispanic or Chicano. Overall, some of the
vocabulary and the text were a little bit easier to understand but I had to still search
some words or ask my parents to help me what they meant.
