Teacher Candidate: Morgan Chambers

__1____
Subject/Grade: Primary Montessori
Morning work time

Lesson #
Date and Time of Lesson:

Learning Objective: The student will be able to demonstrate an understanding of the

relationship between numbers and quantities.

Alignment with Standards:

K.CC.B.4 Understand the relationship between numbers and quantities; connect
counting to cardinality.
Developmental Appropriateness or Cross-curricular connections:
Emotional- The students will have the opportunity to work one on one with the teacher without the involvement of other
students.

Cognitive- The students will need to have the ability to concentrate on the teachers demonstration of the lesson,
as well as have a back ground in number recognition.
Social- Students will have the ability to work by themselves, as well as one-on-one with the teacher.
Physical- The students will be working hands on with the materials throughout the lesson, and by doing so will
be subconsciously working on their fine motor skills.

Assessment(s) of the Objectives:

Lesson Objective
The student will be able
to identify the
relationship between a
given number and its
quantity.

Assessment of the
Objective
Pre- students will be able
to recall the number
symbol for numbers 1-10
During- Observational; if
the student can count
out the correct number
of manipulatives for a
given symbol

Use of Formative
Assessment
Data received from
observing this lesson
will help to guide
further instructional
needs.

Accommodations:
This is a lesson that is taught individually and at the students pace. Accommodations will vary based on the
needs of the student being taught at that time, since the lesson will be done one on one with the teacher and
student any modifications that that student may need will be addressed then.
Materials:
Mat
Cards and counters lesson (numbers and manipulatives to represent
quantity)
Procedures:
Motivational techniques- To gain the interest of the students, they will be given
the opportunity to work one on one with the teacher.
Grouping- Due to the individuality of this lesson, it is given on a one on one basis.
Instructional strategies- 1. Invite the child to the work, and have him get a mat

for work space. 2. Show the child where the lesson is located on the shelf and have
him bring it to his mat. 3. Lay out each number symbol, and give the name. 4.
Once all symbols 1-10 are laid out, point to the first name, say the name, and then
lay out that quantity underneath the number one object at a time. 5. Continue until
all quantities and symbols have been matched. 6. If student is ready, conduct 3
period lesson.
Probing questions- What is this number? Show me 7.
Lesson closure- To close the lesson, the student will be given the opportunity to
work independently on the lesson.

Activity Analysis:
Activity 1- During this part of the activity the student will be observing the teacher
demonstrate how to do the lesson. He will watch as she places each number symbol onto
the mat and then counts out the correct number of manipulatives and places the correct
quantity under the symbol. This lesson supports the lesson objective because it allows
the students to see the demonstration of how to correlate between number symbol and
quantities. This activity stems from the students need for one on one instruction and
their favoritism for hands on activities. During this part of the lesson, technology will not
be used because the student is working with materials hands-on at his work space.
Activity 2- After watching the teacher demonstrate the lesson, the student will be given
the opportunity to complete the lesson independently on his own. This part of the lesson
supports the lesson objective because it allows the student to work on his own towards
the lesson objective of being able to correlate between symbol and quantity. This activity
supports the students needs for working with hands-on materials and being able to work
independently as his own pace. Technology will not be used during this part of the lesson
because the student is working with manipulatives at his work space.
