Race in America
In the article Race in America: Are blacks still handicapped in America? Alan
Greenblatt analyzes the struggle African American people still have in the U.S. due to the
contributing factor of discrimination. Greenblatt acknowledges the issue is far more beyond than
racial problems but prejudice throughout society that dismisses civil rights laws. Greenblatt
emphasizes on how race is still a major factor in terms of education, violence, and interest.
Greenblatt observed the racial discrimination in neighborhoods when blacks move into an all
white community and soon the whites leave because 10 to 15 percent are black(599).
Therefore, Greenblatt indicates that predominately whites have low expectations of change and
blacks are seeking for refuge to change the system and have a balance.
