Qualitative Measures

Text Structure: The text features and graphics are considered very complex because the topic of Ancient Greece is hard
to grasp. Therefore, the text features and graphics are vital to understanding. The organization is clear and predictable
which will allow the students to focus on the more complex parts.

Language Features: The most complex part is the vocabulary because its subject-related, unfamiliar, and complex.
However, its presented in a straight-forward way. This will allow the students to develop their vocabulary in a clear
way.

Meaning/Purpose: The purpose of the text is very clear and students can easily understand what each section is about
due to the use of text features.

Knowledge Demands: This is the most complex part. Everything is content-specific with many references to other
content areas Math, religion, English, Government, Politics, Philosophy, and others. References to actual plays,
poems, and philosophical works are included and will need to be understood.

Potential Challenges this Text Poses:

Vocabulary and Subject Matter

Differentiation/Supports for Students: I will be using a guided reading format in
order to meet the needs of the students.

Belows Use a read aloud format and discuss. I would focus on vocabulary and
facts by using visuals to help reinforce the information. I would also support
their instruction with audio and visuals. I would also start with chapter 3. Its
focus is on sports and the Olympics. This is the most relatable for them. They
then reread and revisit the text again later in the rotations.

Ons Read together and discuss. Support with audio/visual aids. I would focus
on vocab and facts. I would start this group with chapter 2. It relates to other
subjects they are studying math and science.

Aboves Independent reading on their own. Discussions during group. Focus
on vocab and facts related to their section. They will start with chapter 5 which
is on religion and mythology. They would also study actual Greek myths.

Through rotations and additional lessons, each group will wind up covering all
chapters and supportive materials.
