Lesson One Day One


Daily Topic: Literature Authors from the Enlightenment: English
Approximate Time Needed: 60 minutes
Standards: 10. By the end of the year, read and comprehend literature, including stories,
dramas, and poems, in the grades 6-8 text complexity band proficiently, with scaffolding
as needed at the high end of the range.
2. Write informative/explanatory text to examine a topic and convey ideas, concepts, and
information through the selection, organization, and analysis of relevant content.
Objectives: The learner will create a presentation that will discuss significant facts or
characteristics of common writers during the Enlightenment period. The learner will then
compose a short creative essay on the information.
Procedure:
Present the students with the Popular Literature Authors During the
Enlightenment inspiration map.
Each student will choose 4 of the authors from the inspiration map.
Students will research the 4 authors they chose on the Internet.
~ Each author must have:
The title of 1 popular novel, drama, poem or short story
2 significant facts or characteristics about the authors work or
career
A picture of the author
Each student will then create a Prezi presentation on the authors they chose.
~ A Prezi slide must be created for each author including the above
required information about the author
The student will now write a short 2 paragraph essay on his research. The
essay will include a brief description of the Enlightenment Period, things the
student has learned about the authors he researched, the students favorite
author and why. (Included on the Prezi)

Conclusion

If there is enough time, the students will present their Prezi presentations to
the class.

1 computer for each student
A Prezi account
Overhead projector
Special Needs Students: Special needs students will be paired with a mature, regular
education student to assist them. They will work together to research and create a Prezi
presentation.
Non-native Students: Non-native students will all work together and will be assisted by
an aid for extra help if needed.
Gifted Students: Gifted students will be encouraged to include their favorite quote from
the author and give 3 facts or characteristics about the author.
