Honors 1000: The City Reflection
The purpose of Honors 1000: The City was to give us more historical context about Detroit.
Learning about Detroit's history led to us learning about why Detroit is the way that it is now,
also, we learned about the causes of the problems that Detroit has been facing for the last
half century.
Before taking this class, I didn't have much knowledge about the cultural places in Detroit,
besides the Detroit Institute of Arts and Comerica Park. The passport events introduced us to
Eastern Market as well as to Redford Theater. For essay one, I chose to write about the Fox
Theater so I also learned about that.

The text City Life gave more insight into how architecture reflects and can even affect social
issues. Lectures usually started with a clear introduction of one theme, so that was
helpful. Ragtime helped us visualize how things were in the early 1900's. This class will not
shape my future career.
