Exams
Therearetwodifferenttypesofexams,writtenandperformancebased.Forthemidterm
exam,eachstudentwillperformapiecethattheychosetoworkonastheirsolo
repertoireduringthefirsthalfofthesemester(worth150pts),thentherewillbeawritten
portion(worth50pts).Forthefinalexam,thestudentswillbringinastudentoftheir
owntoteachinfrontoftheclassforagrade(worth150pts),thentherewillbeawritten
portion(worth50pts).
AttendancePolicy
Attendanceforthisclassismandatory.Ifyoumissanyclass,yourgradewillbelowered
by10points.Absences will only be excused for the following reasons: (1) University
sponsored-event for which documentation is provided, (2) Family emergency, (3) Illness
which prevents you from attending class, with a signed physicians note stating the reason
for your absence, (4) religious observance for which you have provided advance
notification (at least two weeks).
AcademicHonesty
The University policy regarding academic dishonesty is stated in the Undergraduate
Catalog. It allows faculty members to impose a sanction on students determined to be
guilty of plagiarism (taking the ideas or written words of another without appropriate
citation). The sanction may include failure of a particular assignment or exam, failure of
a particular class, or any other appropriate disciplinary action. Charges of plagiarism
must be reported to the appropriate department chair and college dean, and to the MSU
