Running head: COMPETENCY REFLECTION

The principal practice test is composed of three domains, each domain containing a set of
competencies that support the domain. There are total of nine competencies that have to be
learned in order to become a successful principal teacher.
Domain 1 School Community
Domain 1 is composed of three competencies. Competency one consist of knowing how
to shape a campus culture (TEA,2010,p 14). Competency two demonstrates that a principal can
communicate and collaborate with the staff members (TEA,2010,p 14). Competency three
elaborates on the professionalism that a principal should act.
The first three competencies elaborate on how a principal should shape, communicate
and use ethical judgment when making a decision. As a future administrator I know that these
competencies will come naturally after having the opportunity to experience these competencies
with my current administrator through my internship.
Domain 2 Instructional Leadership
This domain is composed of four competencies that discloses how a principal
demonstrates instructional leadership. Competency four elaborates on how a principal has to
know how facilitate , design and, implement a school curriculum (TEA,2010,p 15). Competency
five demonstrates how a school administrator advocates, nurtures and, sustains an instructional
program that is conducive to student learning (TEA,2010,p 16). Competency six consists of how
well an administrator evaluates and develops his or her staff , how he or she follow the legal
requirements for personal management (TEA,2010,p 16). Competency seven shows how a
principal applies organizational decision making and problem solving in order to ensure an
effective learning environment.

Running head: COMPETENCY REFLECTION

Reflecting on the competencies that build up this domain it is very easy to say that a lot
of ongoing observations and personal experiences have been done with these competencies.
Even with the observations and experiencing these competencies as a teacher, there is a level of
confusion or lack of self confidence in these competencies. A lot of doubt and wanting to please
people come into mind, but I have to keep in mind that not everyone will be content with the
decisions a principal teachers makes, I have to keep the students best interest in mind when
making a decision of curriculum, my teachers and .

Domain 3 Administrative Leadership

Domain three consists of two competencies. The two competencies have to do with the
administrative leadership on a campus. Competency eight explains how a school administrator is
effective with the campus budges, personnel, resource utilization , financial management and,
technology use (TEA,2010,p 118). Competency nine show how a school administrator should
keep a school safe and have an effective learning environment (TEA,2010,p 18).
These two competencies seem to be the most uncomplicated competencies of all. They
are easy and straight forward to understand. The school district also gives a school administrator
a lot of support in these two areas, that has been my observation going through the internship
program. The district in which the internship was done, provided the administrator guidelines,
and a checks and balance for the budget area. I feel very confident and comfortable with these
two competencies, in plain words , I have to abide the law and my districts policy.
