Sort the Plants

and Animals

April 30, 2015

This Lesson could be used for kindergarten or first grade. It goes over plants and their life cycles.
This could be used as a part of a larger unit discussing how plants and animals both have life cycles.
I would use this lesson after an introductory lesson to the students about plants.
EALR 4: Plants and animals have life cycles. Changes in the ecosystem affect living populations and the
non living elements of a defined area.Plants and animals vary from one another and their parents. These
differences serve as the basis for natural selection.
ISTE: 4.C. Collect and analyze data to identify solutions and/
or make informed decisions.
Page 2: Writing activity to help students learn plant vocabulary
Page 3: Students label the parts of a plant and drag words to correct spaces
Page 4: Students touch the box and listen then drag the appropriate picture to the
appropriate box to complete the life cycle.
Page 5 and 6: What is a seed? Touch the paragraph to read aloud. Then use split
screen mode and highlight parts of the paragraph that relate to the questions.
Page 7: Flash file about plants. Various activities, follow the directions to label
plants, match the same, complete a life cycle and make a plant grow.
Page 8: Sort plants and animals

Rationale: Interactive white board is an effective way to teach this lesson because it is
extremely engaging and interactive! By allowing the students to come up and move the
answers to the correct spots and match pictures to the correct places it helps keep them
interested and provides them with many different visuals to reinforce the information that they
are learning.
