committed by their wives therefore they had the
right to physically discipline them

Battering: hitting someone heavily
and repeatedly with violent blows
Physical abuse: The use of physical
force that may result in bodily
injury, physical pain, or impairment
Examples:
Scratching, punching, biting,
strangling or kicking.
Throwing something at you such as
a phone, book, shoe or plate.
Pulling your hair.
Pushing or pulling you.

Grabbing your clothing.

Using a gun, knife, box cutter, bat,
mace or other weapon.
Smacking your bottom.
Forcing you to have sex or
perform a sexual act.
Grabbing your face to make you
look at them.
Grabbing you to prevent you from
leaving or to force you to go
somewhere.

abused by virtue of being
physically terrorized
Violence against women can
happen to anyone at any age
Women can be physically abused
as a child and it can continue
throughout their lifespan
Elder physical abuse is also more
common than people think and it
is more likely for a female to be
victimized than a male past the
age of 60.

victimized by a current or former partner.

acted out by men; 96% of women
experiencing non-fatal violence are
victimized by men
