In the play Tragedy of Hamlet, Prince of Denmark written by William Shakespeare,

William Shakespeares play Hamlet,

Hamlet is a complex protagonist whothe complex protagonist, Hamlet, is portrayed as brave,
loyal, and ambitious to enhance the
theme of the tragic playtragedy. Hamlet swears to "sweep to his fathersfathers revenge", which
dictates his life
there on out (H I. v.). These simple words transform Hamlet, making him dynamic, and also
making him focused on directing his focus towards avenging his fathersfathers death.

Royalty usually incorporates heroic and bravery, but in Hhamlets situation, bravery was
was found in an attempt to speak to his deceased father. Hamlets acts of bravery are rst
shown when he is introduced to the ghost. Hamlet feels drawn to the ghost even though the
ghostit could be a demon given the chance it is his father. In Horatio's attempt to stop Hamlet, his
rst act of bravery is showndisplayed. " Why, what should be the fear?... And for my soul, what
can it do
to that?"(H l. iv.). These two rhetorical questions put place emphasis on Hamlets bravery due to
the
fact that he is willing to risk his life to avenge his fathersfathers death. This small act of bravery
transforms Hamlet into a remarkably brave and loyal character in the play.

Other than bravery, Hamlet also possesses immense loyalty towards his father. Hamlets
extreme
loyalty to his father allows him to take a part in avenging his fathersfathers death, as well as
doing

exactly what he is told by King Hamlet. King Hamlet informs his son in of what has truly happen
in
an attempt that Hamlet will avenge his fathers death. As well as demanding Hamlet not take any
action on his mother. Not only is Hamlet angered by his fathersfathers death, but also by the
marriage of
his mother and Claudius. "Now to my word / It is 'Adieu, adieu! remember me.'I have sworn
it." (H I. v.). Hamlet is enraged by this and promises his father his will shall be done. This act of
loyalty displayed by Hamlet will reveal how the tragedy unfolds.

Hamlets lastfinal, yet mostgreatest important character trait is ambition. At rst, Hamlets
is portrayed
with a lack of ambition because he's morns over his fathersfathers death. But as soon revealed to
him
by his father, the truth. He maintains a deathlydeadly desire to avenge his fathers death father. As
the play
goes oncontinues, Hamlets ambition increases. At the point werewhere he has the opportunity to
kill his uncle,
but he doesn'tdoes not. His ambition and focus to avenge his father has molded altered his way
of thinking.
Hamlet can't cannot just blatantly murder Claudius as he prays. "And now I'll do't. And so he
goes to heaven /
And so am I revenged. That would be scann'd / A villain kills my father; and for that / I, his sole
son, do this same villain send / To heaven?" (H III. iii.). He wants his uncle to suffer for what he
has done. Killing Claudius at the in that moment would not fulll his wantdesire. Hamlets
wantneed to avenge his
fathersfathers death could have occurred in manyvarious different ways, which would have been
easier, but as
the plot is revealed King Hamlets wants becomes Hamlets desire. He obsesses over the thought

of killing his uncle. His st attempt to kill his uncle would have fullled his fathersfathers
revenge but
not his own. Hamlet wanted Claudius to suffer as much as he had. Hamlets ambition allows his
him
to fulll his duty, but at the same time is what slowly cripples him. His strong desire of taking
revenge is what ultimately kills himleads to his death.

These three specic character traits reveal much a large portion of the plot through
Hamlets actions.
Through outThroughout the play Shakespeare puts places Hamlet in situations in which his
loyalty, bravery, and
ambition are tested, thus further enhancing them.
