Audience Analysis
My audience is individuals that want to use iTunes but have never used a
similar program. They can be in any age group as long as they have the capacity to
use a computer and obtain media. My audience can have little to no experience
installing and using programs.
Users that choose to follow these instructions have a need to store and
manage their media. Users will utilize the instructions to install iTunes, add and play
media, and even organize them in playlists. This will make their media more
accessible manageable.
It is stated in the instructions that in order to use the program the user needs
a computer with a 32 or 64 bit processor and media to use with iTunes. The user can
be a new beginner to media programs and still be able to achieve the objectives of
each section of instructions.

Subject: Final Instructions Project MEMO
Music has gone from being stored on records to cassettes to CDs and today, digital
media. Music listeners have to adapt with the changing form of media. Programs
like iTunes make it easy for people to store, organize and play their media. To help
the newer users adapt with the change I choose to create a beginners iTunes
instructions manual for my project.
First I had to decide which medium would be best to illustrate my instructions. Once
I choose to write the instructions like a manual, I had to brainstorm what users must
know to comfortably use iTunes. After choosing my main topics the rest of the work
was just walking myself through the process like a new user while not only just
writing down my process, but also while taking screenshots to act as visual aids of
the instructions.
The main upside to the project was that I had full knowledge of the topic so all I had
to do was clearly express the knowledge. It was interesting using the techniques
learned in class to create an effective and visually appealing document. The project
was not as easy as it might seem. The amount of time put into all the parts was
more than I expected and there seemed to always be room for improvement.
Having so much flexibility with how to approach the project made it difficult to
determine how much information is enough.
The usability test really helped clear up what areas my instructions were lacking. It
took me a decent amount of time to come up with the questions I wanted to ask
and how to get the right feedback from the users but in the end the questions I
choose definitely helped guide me into my final draft. From the test I learned that he
information in my first draft was no problem for my users, the main complaint was
that the document was not very visually appealing. After applying the techniques
learned in class to improve a document, such as having a visible color scheme and
appropriate font styling throughout the document, my instructions now almost look
professionally done.
My role in the group online instructions was to create the website. At first we
created our instructions on a website that had us pay in the end to activate it so I
had to create a new website with similar information from the original site. Of
course the second time I spent even more time on each part because of the rational
that if I had to redo the whole website, there is no reason why the second version
should not be better than the original. Writing the instructions was generally easy
because of the well organized information on the UNCC Parking webpage.
My group members were all very helpful in the creation of the group portion of our
project. We all met outside of class and gave each other tasks to effectively
complete the project. Haley was always throwing out new idea and questioning if
we chose the right method to present our information. Jay did a great job putting all
the information together as we brainstormed throughout the project. Lastly Devyn
kept us organized and made sure each part of what we were asked to do was
completed.
I really enjoyed this project. Getting to directly apply what we learned in class along
with our own personal additions to the project gave us almost full creative power
over the project. Learning to take feedback and working in a group reinforced all
that we learned in class in a fun and effective way.
