Content Area/Grade/Standards/Topics Addressed:

Brief Description of Learning Experience: What learning standards will be addressed? What will
students and teachers do? How will the project be introduced? How long will it take to complete? What
audience will use/care about the multimedia projects students are creating? How broad is this
audience? How will student work be assessed and by whom? Who will provide feedback to students
about their work? Student choice and engagement will be shown during the movie making
process Students will start off by doing some research on the topic discussed. They will
gather then graphics, audio and a video from a web source provided by the teacher.
Students will create their movie using Movie Maker. To better exampling this project, the
teacher will have a movie created on the life of Martin Luther King, Jr. This will serve as a
guide for students to have a visualization of what they are required to incorporate in their
own movie. The teacher will also guide the students through the process as of how to use
Movie Maker. This will happen during social studies period and be expanded over a week.
The teacher will observe the students as they complete their product, making slight
suggestions and making sure they include everything they need. The project will be
assessed by the teacher, using a rubric that addresses creativity, completion, and that
students include all the things needed. When they are finished with their work, there will
be an in-class presentation where students will present their final product to their
classmates. Their movie will also be published on the classroom website or the teachers
class blog for public viewing.
Student Engagement/Higher-Order Thinking: What LoTi level would this lesson be and Why?
Which indicators of Engaged Learning are strong and why? This lesson goes up to LoTi level five because the
product is extended beyond the classroom. By publishing their work in the classrooms website or blog, the teacher is
allowing the students work to be viewed and criticized by others. Learning tasks is a strong indicator of Engaged
Learning because this is a meaningful project, it is student-directed, and culturally responsive. The student plays the role
of explorer, teacher and producer.
Importance of technology: Why is using a multimedia authoring tools critical to the project? Could
the project be completed without this technology? What would be lost without using it? What other
types of technology, if any, are going to be used in the learning experience? Multimedia authoring tools,
such as the Movie Maker, improves the quality of this project. Because this is a video project, it could not be done without
using any sort of technology. Students need to create a movie, but they also need to collect information. Without using this
type of technology, the whole purpose of the project would be lost. Aside from Movie Maker, students will be able to
access other tools such as Google Images, YouTube, Jamendo, Dropbox, and Keepvid.
Inspiration (optional): If you used existing multimedia projects as a model for your project (whether
in part or whole), include the URL(s) so we can visit. Explain what concepts you borrowed from
others.

Internet Safety and Student Privacy: Briefly discuss some possible issues surrounding internet
safety and student privacy that could arise while implementing this learning experience and explain
how youd minimize risks to students/yourself, alleviate any fears by parents/administrators, and
follow school districts Internet Safety/Use Policy.
The teacher must provide students with appropriate and safe websites to use when
completing this activity, especially because students can accidentally access websites that
include inappropriate content. If the movie is to be published, the teacher needs to protect
each students identity and information. Parents of each student must also give consent to
the teacher before publishing their work. Students will properly give credits to all
information gathered from outside resources.
Other comments about your proposed student multimedia authoring activity: This activity can
be adjusted to support and meet any grade level and subject area.
