Lesson Plan (Direct Instruction)

Subject/Grade: 10th Grade IGCSE Geometry

Instructional Input

Teacher: Miguel Larios

3/3/2015
Standard:
HS. G CO. A. 5. Given a geometric figure and a rotation, reflection, or a translation, draw the
transformed figure using graph paper, tracing paper.
Objective (Explicit):
SWBAT rotate an object about a point given a specified amount of degrees.
Sub-objectives, SWBAT (Sequenced from basic to complex):
TSW rotate an object about the origin.
TSW rotate an object about a vertex.
TSW rotate an object about a given point.
Evidence of Mastery (Measurable, include variety of methods of checking for understanding):
Students can correctly answer 80% of the questions their given during the lesson.
Students can correctly answer 80% of the questions from the worksheet given at the end of the
class by correctly showing their work and the correct answer.

Anticlockwise.
Opening/Anticipatory Set: (state objectives, connect to previous learning, and make relevant to real life)
At the beginning of class the students will be given their notes and the students will answer the warmup questions. These questions are from the previous lesson. The warm-up questions will also be
presented in the Power Point Presentation.

Differentiation
Carlos and Juan will be given the PowerPoint presentation slides for their notes. Different
examples will be presented during the presentation where different object are going to be
translated using different methods based sequenced form basic to complex.

Guided Practice
Independent Practice

Teacher Will:
Go over some examples and ask students what
steps are required to rotate an object and
produce the image. (5~7 minutes)

Student Will:
Guide the teacher in correctly rotating an
object and producing the image after the
rotation with specified angle of rotation,
direction and point of rotation.

Students will be given questions to answer on their whiteboard. These questions will be

to answer the complex questions.

students might have.

Differentiation
Students that need extra help (Juan and Carlos) will be given more time to answer the math
problems.
Students that need extra help will also have fewer problems to complete.
Advanced students (Christopher and Cecilia) may be given more difficult math problems to
complete.
Closure/Lesson Summary:
The students will be given an ending question to the lesson that they will answer. This question will be
presented in the PowerPoint. The students will then answer the question and turn it in at the end of
class.
