The case gives an overview of the Bhopal gas tragedy.

On December 3, 1984, poisonous gas leaked

from Union Carbide India Limited (UCIL's) pesticide plant in Bhopal, which killed thousands of people.
The case brings out the ethical issues involved in the disaster.
It discusses in detail the reasons behind the disaster. It talks about the various factors which caused
the incident. Some of them are, absence of proper safety precautions like absence of the alarm
system, no evacuation planning, no emergency information. There are also some negligence from the
UCIL like storing MIC ,one of the most deadly chemicals in a highly populated area, filling the tanks
above their capacity, minimizing the number of workers, absence of maintenance supervisor, improper
safety training etc.
The case discusses the role played by Union Carbide Corporation after the disaster, which seemed to
be unethical. It also talks about the role of the Government of India and Madhya Pradesh government
in the disaster.

Short Range:

Practices which are against the interest of peoples life are required to be
stopped
We should definitely talk with the head of UCC regarding the unethical
practices happening with in the plant (as per UCCs guidelines)
Medical treatment and information regarding deadly chemicals (like MIC)
should need to available in Hospitals, within the city where plant is
operating

Long Range actions:

Proper justification for workforce reduction should be demanded from

UCC in Bhopal plant, as there is no question of compromising with the
safety issues.
We may try to form a special team to check all the security and safety
issues periodically (within every 7days) and have to report to the
authority to confirm that safety standards are properly followed or not.
