Cognitive Level:
Objective: Students will be able to understand how to describe various items using adjectives,
by working in groups to describe murals, after completing adjective worksheet as a class.
CCSS:
CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.L.1.1.F
Use frequently occurring adjectives.
Opening:
1. I will ask the students what they already know about adjectives.
2. We will discuss what an adjective is and practice describing something or someone in
our classroom.
Presentation:
1. I will give each student an adjective worksheet. I will call on a student to read the
directions.
2. We will go step by step, one side at a time, through the worksheet. If students appear to
understand the concept, I will allow them to work independently and we will review the
page after they complete it.
3. I will tell the students that they will be working in groups to practice using adjectives to
describe a picture.
4. I will give them the directions for the activity and place them in their homogeneous
groups.
Guided Practice:
1. Students will work around the room with their groups to describe the mural their group
has been given.

2. Each group will be responsible for giving a various number of adjectives, based on their
skill level.
3. Each student must write at least one adjective on the groups poster.
Closure:
1. Students will come together and share what adjectives they chose to describe their
murals.
2. I will remind the students that they can use adjectives in their writing to give great
details.
Assessment:

Students will be assessed during the lesson when they ask or answer questions.
Students will be assessed when they give answers for the worksheet.
Students will be assessed individually when I check their worksheet for accuracy.
Students will be assessed as they work in groups to describe their mural.
Students will be assessed on an ongoing basis, as they are encouraged to use adjectives
in their everyday writing.

Differentiation:

Students will be grouped homogeneously to complete the group activity.


Groups will be expected to give a certain amount of adjectives based on their skill level.
Students will be using a hands-on approach to practice using adjectives, benefitting

visual and kinesthetic learners.


Students will be working in various spots in the room to complete the activity.
