I have been researching climate change. It is a hotly contested issue today, but a
very important topic, as it affects every person on earth. It seems as if anyone you talk to
has and opinion on the matter and that those opinions are endless. Some believe that
climate change does not get the attention it deserves given the severity of the situation;
some claim climate change is real and cannot be disputed; others still believe despite
scientific evidence, climate change is not real; and others believe still that climate change
is a completely natural part of the earths existence.
First and foremost, there are many who believe that climate change is an issue
that is not receiving the concern or recognition it is entitled to. In Christopher Bookers
Climate Change: This Is The Worst Scandal of Our Generation, he asserts that
information obtains by scientists and governments are intentionally being withheld from
the public, as this would interfere with financial markets. (Booker) His opinion is
surprisingly unlike many of his peers, as he believes that scientists have intentionally
manipulated data to push measures through parliament in defense of global warming.
Booker believes this will be devastating to taxpayers and has said the Climate Change
Act of 2008 is likely to cost hundred of billions of dollars. (Booker) Alternatively, in Phil
Plaits article "Unlike Temperatures, Climate Change Deniers Are Falling Fast he states
that those who are denying climate change is an issue have been changing their minds by
vast numbers. (Plait) As more scientific information has made way into legislature and
into current mainstream media news, more people have taken an interest in becoming

Miner
educated about how the environment is changing. Plait believes that though specifically
global warming has become an interest of many people, the issue is not being treated as
the devastating epidemic that it is by many countries governments. (Plait) Both parties
agree, more thought and attention should be brought, to the issue as whole, creating a
discussion where scientists, governments, universities, and citizens of the world freely
exchange information.
In addition, there are many who ascertain that climate change is a real,
undisputable fact. NASAs website has a section dedicated to current information and
news regarding the subject. The web content is broken down into four subjects: Evidence,
Causes, Effects, and Solutions. (NASA) While reviewing NASAs documented
interpretations of available factoids, one particular ascertation stands out, Scientific
evidence for warming of the climate system is unequivocal. (NASA) This particular
phrasing, as dictated by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, creates a
unified front with some of the most brilliant minds that grace the scientific community of
our planet. NASA is not a randomly organized body it is an establishment of scientific
authority. When an intercontinental organization dedicated to reporting findings free of
suspect aligns completely with NASAs scientific body, it should be recognized that this
is a force to be reckoned with in any opposing fact-based mindset. Stephen Dinan offers
more insight into this belief, as he details why senators are agreeing that climate change
is no longer a topic that can be denied. 4 He offers, Most U.S. senators agree that climate
change is real, but may not be caused by humans. (Dinan)
Another opinion still is one that offers a truly differing opinion are those who
dispose of climate change as a non-relevant subject matter, meaning that, no convincing

Miner
evidence that humans can or will cause global warming (OSS). These people believe
that climate change is not real. OSS, or Open Source Systems, Sciences, Solutions, finds
that although there is a noticeable rise in temperature and warming of the planet, humans
cannot be justifiably held accountable for such changes. The argument is that, The
proposed limits on greenhouse gases would harm the environment, hinder the advance of
science and technology, and damage the health and welfare of mankind. (OSS) Tom
Bethell, a contributor to the American Spectator states, Without it, plants would not
grow, and without plant-life animals could not live. Any increase of carbon dioxide in the
atmosphere causes plants, trees, and forests to grow more abundantly (Bethell). Bethell
quips that the results of more carbon dioxide should, be a treehuggers delight.
Another opinion offered is this well-founded opinion that climate change has
effectively been caused by human development, whether on purpose or through the
course of the prevalence of human species populating the planet. Jack Kelly offers insight
into this opinion in his piece for the Pittsburgh Gazette, "The Facts Don't Add up for
Human-caused Global Warming." (Kelly) This article describes how natural fluctuation
has occurred, and how it is likely that global warming is not affected by humans.

Given that Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change also finds that NASAs
theories and correspondence are actually factually sound, I feel that it is impossible to
deny whole-heartedly (as other sources have attempted to) that climate change has not
been impacted by humans. If we as a global community fail to learn the effects of our
current usages have on the environment, we risk the continued rise in temperature and
atmospheric pressures from our atmosphere as well as continuous struggles to build a

Miner
world where we can thrive in the present and future. We can take these steps to make the
world work properly: learning from our mistakes; creating sustainable resources; utilizing
a borderless community to enable global group-think to create solutions; enable the
average world citizen to embrace renewable resources solar, wind, water, etc. It is not
that everyone who opposes climate change is wrong, it is truly about the future of our
planet. When we all stop trying to find what the real culprits are, we can come to a
communal solution of how we can all change what we do as a global neighborhood.
