Social Media Controversies
Introduction: There have been a lot of controversial issues on social media, where people
literally go to the extent of using really nasty words to describe others. Social media are websites
and applications that enable users to create and share content or to participate in social
networking. People, specifically students, used to and someway somehow still collect
information on social media to do school projects as well as make new friends and other. Now,
most of them go on social media to do other things like speculate and make really bad comments
on others. This essay is aimed at discussing the causes and effects of social media influence on
students school work nowadays.
Question 1: According to sources, what are the effects of too much use of social media on
students GPA?
Question 2: Why do some say that social media is the cause of students slacks at studies?
Question 3: What do sources argue about what the effects of social media on students GPA are?

Youth spend a considerable portion of their daily life interacting through social media
which is a bad thing. She continues that Subsequently, question and controversies emerge about
the effects SNS have on adolescent development. This review outlines the theoretical

frameworks researchers have used to understand adolescents and SNS. It brings together work
from disparate fields that examine the relationship between SNS and social capital, privacy,
youth safety, psychological well-being, and educational achievement. These research strands
speak to high-profile concerns and controversies that surround youth participation in these online
communities, and offer ripe areas for future research.

The use of social media application in college teaching has theoretical basis from
pedagogical theories and technology adoption theories. Pedagogical theories support that social
media applications can enrich students learning experience and improve educational outcomes.
Technology adoption theories explain the cause and effect of different factors of social media
such as Twitter and blogging as valuable contemporary curriculum content and learning
experience.

Data were collected from a sample of 247 Chinese university students via an online
survey. The results suggest that perceived enjoyment, perceived social presence, and perceived
usefulness are key user satisfaction. Perceived social presence and perceived media richness are
positively associated with perceived enjoyment. It was found that perceived enjoyment,
perceived social presence, and perceived enjoyment media richness have significant effects on

perceived usefulness. Of interest, perceived enjoyment and perceived social presence have
stronger effects on user satisfaction than perceived usefulness.

This study examined how 30 minutes of search time on the Web affected students' essay
scores in response to a writing prompt. Expository essays were obtained from 49 fourth- and fifth
grade students enrolled in an elementary school in Virginia, in the United States. Students were
placed by random assignment into three groups with the same writing prompt for all three
groups. Data analyses using ANOVA indicate that there was statistical significance in two
components of writing. The group that received instruction on using the Internet to conduct
research in the prewriting phase outperformed the control group in two areas: the total essay
score and usage/mechanics.

During the early 2000s, social media did not have the strong presence that currently
exists, though it was on the horizon. Finding answers was possible, though messy. Answers were
available, but required numerous trial-and-error strategies to decide what was logical for my
music classroom. When social media moved to the forefront between 2006 and 2008, I
immediately became connected to a collection of music teachers -- individuals in various
teaching scenarios with teaching strategies in technology and beyond -- and acquired a filter
system for ideas. Teachers would respond with "likes" or "favorites" for a well-received
comment. I became connected to music teachers at national and international levels. The world,
physically the same size, now felt more accessible and connected.

The digital-age transformation of our homes, schools, and families has opened a new
world of opportunity for learning, and a new world of challenge as educators come to terms with
the 21st-century realities of students' lives online and on social media. What began (and
continues) as an extraordinary expansion of learning opportunities has also catalyzed a culture
clash between the community of an independent school -- grounded in integrity, respect, and a
vibrant intellectual life -- and the culture students inhabit online and in gaming and social media,
where cynicism, sexual exploitation, social cruelty, and a general shock-and-awe standard are
often the coin of the realm. Students are enthusiastic digital citizens, but sometimes their
enthusiasm trumps their maturity.

Of course, net neutrality advocates have been arguing that the Internet is increasingly
controlled by big broadband holders like Comcast, and hence, to restore balance, it needs to be
controlled by government regulation. That may well be true. But the larger and more important
effect is not about balance or restoring the status quo, but that the Internet passes into some new,
more formal arena wherein the powers that be -- all of them -- get to flex their muscles and try to
beat the others.

The advent of the internet has led to the rapid growth of the variety - and amount - of
information that is now available. While online technology has benefited a great number of
people, it is also felt that the internet might replace other activities that could be more beneficial

or productive. In other words, it could serve as a distractor, lending credence to the statement that
"time spent doing one thing cannot be spent doing another." This study specifically examines the
amount of internet usage and its effects on college students' GPAs.
