Classroom Management Plan

1. Creating a Safe Learning Environment: I will be basing my safe learning environment

on Skinners Behavior Modification theory. This theory is based on students behaviors
and how they act during different activities and games that I will be teaching them. I want
them to feel like they are doing a good job and progressing through what I am teaching.
Therefore I will be giving them good feedback about their behaviors telling them things
like: great job, keep up the good work, keep doing that but now try doing this as
well. Positive reinforcement that will help them learn and be safe while learning in the
classroom. For an adapted setting, creating a safe learning environment will also be a
main focus of mine that will be based on most of the ideas above and also adding a few
new ideas. I will be aware of students intellectual, emotional, physical and social
needs and establish rules and procedures to meet them in order to make it a safe learning
environment for adapted students whom might need more instruction or modified
instructions to help them succeed throughout the lessons.
2. Behavioral Rules: The consequences of misbehaviors are as followed. First misbehavior
act from student is a verbal nice warning explaining to the student what they are doing
wrong and not to do it anymore. Second warning is having the student sit out of the
activity for a couple minutes until student has learned what they have done wrong. If the
misbehavior is more sever the student will be taken to the office and the office will
contact the students parents to have them come get them or to tell the parents what they
have done wrong.
If students behaviors are good students will be rewarded with positive feedback and
compliments for doing what they are supposed to in class. If there is a dispute between
two students, I will have them sit out and talk about it while other are playing or having
fun in the activity. The students will dispute the argument amongst themselves until it is
settle and they work it out.

4.

Always treat others how you want to be treated

Wearing proper attire is important for physical activity
Eyes and ears on the teacher
Show respect by listening and cooperating with classmates

5. Smile and give compliments to others

3. Motivation: Students love learning new games, activities and fun things to play during
class periods. I love teaching exciting games that make the students want to play for
hours, or even take what they learned in class home to teach to their friends. I plan to
motivate students to do their best and give 100% every time I teach them; because I plan
to give 110% to my students and help them learn and grow as individuals. By teaching
my students appropriately and to the best of my ability should motivate students to do as I
ask and want to learn more each and every day.
4. Group Activity Expectations: When learning new skills and games I will be having
students get into partners, groups or large groups. To do this I will have some techniques
in splitting students in to partners and groups. First I will have students get into partners
by either me picking them, having them quickly get with a partner or by certain way.
Some ways will include: same color shirt, same height, or other variations of colors
students might have the same of. For larger groups I might split the groups evenly with
same amount of guys and girls, or same skill levels on each team. I will expect my
students to work well in group or with partners. Working together is a key concept in my
classroom. Working together means both students will cooperate, and complete the task
by being able to demonstrate they understand directions and are respectful by paying
attention to the teacher.
5. Non-Instructional Methods:
1. Entering/exiting gymnasium: Students will be told to enter and exit the
gymnasium only through the front doors. The reason being is so I can make sure I
know what students come into my gymnasium and I can keep an eye on each
individual.
2. Taking attendance: When taking attendance I plan to have the students line up
in their designated spots to start class. When students are in their spots I will be
able to see which students are missing and which are in attendance. Depending on
how well I know the students I plan on making attendance fun by asking different
questions each day. These questions could be as simple as what is your favorite
color, or what did you learn the previous class period to get the students thinking.
3. Starting/stopping cues: Some starting cues I will have for class will include:
begin, start, go, and blowing the whistle. Some stopping cutes for class will
include: stop, blowing the whistle, freeze, and holding up two fingers to mean be
quiet and listen.

4. Intrusive events: In order to get a drink from class or take a bathroom break
students will have to tell me or ask if they can go. If I am in the middle of talking
student will have to wait until I am done. The only way they can leave is out of
the door to the bathroom or water fountain where I am able to see them still and
the rest of the class.
5. Defining the teaching area/boundaries: The teaching area will be where I teach
the students the new activities or lessons during the class time. This area will be
on one half of the gym where the students are all together and able to hear me
talk. The boundaries are within the gymnasium no going outside the gymnasium
unless to get a drink or to go to the bathroom.
6.

Equipment Use: When there are days that students will have to use equipment I will make
it easy for them to get the equipment out and to put the equipment back in an orderly fashion.
I will make it easy and quick so we are not wasting a lot of time on getting equipment out.
This will help with my time management and give me more time with the students teaching
them the activities for the day. The equipment will be organized in the equipment room so
that it is easily assessable for the students to get and take out on their own. When I put
student into groups I will make it so the students go first to get their equipment then the next
group and so on so it is quick and they are not all in there at one time. Or if its more
challenging I will stand in there and have them line up and hand them out. To put the
equipment away I will blow my whistle and everyone will stop and sit down. The students
sitting quietly will be able to put their equipment away first and sit in their spots. For adapted
students I will make sure to modify my equipment and have equipment that is suitable for
their special needs. I will incorporate this equipment so the students with special needs are
able to give effort to the best of their ability. Some equipment might include: larger/lighter bat,
larger goal/target, lower goal/target, and vary balls (size, weight, color, texture). Implementing this
equipment will help the students stay physically active with the rest of the class.

7. Safety: It is very important that my classroom is a safe environment for all my students.
In case of an emergency I will have directions printed on a large poster of what to do. I
will have one of my students go get another teacher from in the office and show everyone
where that is. Next I will have all the students sit in their designated spots until help
arrives. In case of a tornado I will tell students what we do and where we go. For a fire
students will all line up in order and show them where we go in case of a fire and what
doors to go out. It is important for the students to listen and be able to see on poster to
remind them what we have to do in case of an emergency and where they need to go in
both cases if we are indoors or if we are outside.

8. Communication with Parents: I believe that it is important to inform the parents of the
students on how well their child is doing, or if there is anything to bring up to them about
their child concerning problems in class or any important information. Also parents
should know the students grades or if there is anything their child need help on in the
gym or possibly at home. Its also important to inform the parents on any upcoming
events that the school might participate in or the parents should come participate in with
their child. I will be contacting the parents via email with my email, and phone number,
in case of an emergency and they need to contact me anytime. An example of a letter that
may be sent to the students in provided below. For my adapted students in order to make
it a safe learning environment for them, I will make sure I communicate well with their
parents in case of any special needs or accommodations that need to be met in order for
that student to participate in activities to the best of their ability.

December, 2013
Dear parents,
My name is Garet Sagami, it is my pleasure to teach your child Physical
Education this year. I thought it would be beneficial to let you know some
information about me and my policies and rules in this class. This is my 7th year at
Platteville Elementary and my 10th year in the Platteville School District. Before my
arrival in Platteville, I obtained my Bachelor of Science Degree in Physical Education
from the University of Wisconsin Platteville.
Your students grade will be based on participation, wearing tennis shoes,
meeting the proficiency level for skills practiced at his or her grade level, and
behaving appropriately for physical education class. If you have any questions
regarding my grading policy, please feel free to speak with me.
I believe physical education is important in all of our lives, and it is my job to
teach your children the skills necessary for them to enjoy physical fitness and
exercise throughout their lives. I will encourage all of the students to be physically
active in a safe, controlled way. It is also important to me to treat your student with
respect, patience, and kindness, and I will expect to be treated with those same
qualities in return. I look forward to being a significant person in your childs life, so

please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns. My email address is

Reflection

I believe that my classroom management plan is exactly how I want my

physical education class to be like and to focus around. I feel like I have all the rules
I want my classroom to focus around including how I want the students to be like,
cooperative, creative, caring, helping, respectful, and many more good attributes in
my class. I myself will treat my students with all of those attributes but most
importantly I would like to be treated that way as well. I enjoy teaching students
and helping them learn in any way possible. I believe I will be a role model for the
students to look up to, to teach them how to learn new skills and help them in
everyday life. Staying active will help children grow and live a healthy life.
I believe these items that I incorporated in my management plan are age
appropriate for many of different reasons. Students will be able to follow my
directions including my safety rules to make the gym safe, as well as behavioral
rules so students behave and work well together in the classroom. I plan to
motivate students to the best of their potential and help push students to learn and
be active every day. I will have multiple instructional strategies to help coordinate
my students so I keep an eye on all of them and they all feel safe in my gymnasium.
If any questions or concerns come up, I will communicate with the parents of the

students and tell them how their student is doing and what they need to work on or
to tell them their students is doing a great job in class.
Overall I believe that I have a firm grasp on how I want my classroom to look
and be like when I am teaching. The students will learn each day, as well as helping
me learn to become a better teacher.
1. I believe that it is important to be aware of students intellectual, emotional, physical and

social needs and establish rules and procedures for adapted students because being able to
identify and learn about your students needs will help improve your teaching and make it a
safe and learning environment for all students adapted and non-adapted.
2. Equipment use is an important topic for adapted students. As a teacher you need to modify
equipment for all special needs in the class. This could include different size balls, racquets, or goals
to help achieve performance for all students.
3. To know everything about your adapted students it is important to communicate well with parents
or guardians. They will be able to tell you information about the child that you can use to help put
together lessons. The information will help you accommodate for the student if they have special
needs that you need to incorporate into lesson or know information ahead of time if something
happens in class.
