REFLECTION

Introduction:
-Re-introduce myself as Mr. Castellano
-Go Over my go signal (Ready, Go) , Stop
Signal(3,2,1 Freeze) and the four boundary
cones instructing students to stay within
them at all times throughout the lesson
-CFU: Ask student Stop signal( 3,2,1 Freeze)
Ask go signal ( Ready, go), Ask students to
point to the boundary cones as a class
-Go over safety such as staying within ones
personal space as well as the class
boundaries
-Do not misuse equipment do not throw
anything at students who are not prepared
to catch
Go over my class rules and expectations:
-All students act respectful to both myself
and other students
- Explain to students that staying on task is
important throughout the lesson and
misbehavior will result in a time out away
from the lesson
-Stress listening to instructions and waiting
for my signals to begin doing activity and
transitions.
-Stress Safety!
Lesson Focus: Today boys and girls we will
be going over Throwing and Catching with
ourselves and with partners.
Informing:
Ask students what types of games they play
in which they could use throwing and
catching? ( Baseball, Football, Softball)
Introduce The skill cues of an Overhand
Throw
1) Turn non throwing shoulder toward
target
2) Pull arm back at head level
3) Step with opposite foot
4) Follow through and flick the wrist
Show Visual

Demonstrate what this will look like for

students using whole part whole and
multiple angles in front of the class.
Ask students to then stand up in their own
personal space and throw without any
equipment and then to sit back down
Introduce skill cues for underhand throw
1) square your shoulders
2) reach back like your bowling
3) step with opposition
4) Bring arm forward, release and
follow through
Show Visual
Demonstrate again using whole part whole
and ask students to try without using
equipment in front of the class
Introduce the Skill cues for Catching
1) Watch the ball into your hands (eye
on the ball)
2) Hands up, Elbows out, Thumbs
together if above waist, Pinkies if
below
3) Cushion the ball (Bring ball into your
body)
Show Visual
Demonstrate by throwing a ball into the air
and catching it using the skill cues
CFU: Ask student what the skill cues are to
catching a ball

Activity #1
The students will practice throwing the ball
up in the air to themselves. They will throw
the ball in the air and practice their catching
when the ball comes down.
Extension Up: Students that show a good
skill level will be asked to throw the ball
higher into the air, which will make catch
harder to complete.

Extension Down: Students will practice this

skill with a scarf, which will make the catch
easier to complete because of the rate of
speed at which the object is falling.
Activity #2
Next the students will begin to throw a soft
dodge ball at the wall. The students will not
be aiming at a particular target on the wall
instead they will just be focusing on hitting
the wall on a fly without the ball bouncing.
Students that show good skill level will be
ask to move a further distance from the wall.
Activity#3
The students will now practice throwing and
catching with a partner. The students will
throw back and forth trying to correct throw
and catch the dodge ball using all the cues
we learned in class.
Closure:
Ask Students skill cues of an underhand
throw ( Shoulders Square, Arm Back, Step
opposite, follow through)
Skill Cues of a overhand throw ( Shoulder
pointing at target, pull arm up and back,
Step opposite, Follow through flick wrist)
Skill cues of Catching (Eyes follow ball,
Hands up Elbows out, Thumbs together)
2) ask students to demonstrate all three of
these skill themes
2.5) ask students why safety is important
while throwing equipment?( someone could
get hurt)
3) Ask why throwing and catching are
important for sports? (Helps share the ball
with teammates, catching touchdowns,
throwing touchdowns)
Class will then conclude walking students

back to the door by nametag color, Telling

students which behaviors I liked and they
did well and which behaviors they can work
on for next class
