Discuss the following physical properties of mineral oils

(i) Viscosity Index (ii) Extreme pressure property (iii) Fire point (iv)Drop
point (v) Specific heat
What is the significance of each property in the hydrodynamic
lubrication of bearings.
From first principles derive the continuity equation for a fluid with
density and flowing with velocities u, v, and w along the x, y and z
axes respectively.
Starting with the Reynolds equation for the short journal bearing derive
an expression for the axial pressure distribution. Sketch the variation
of pressure in the axial direction.
What is hydrodynamic instability? Describe some of the bearing
designs that are used to counter the effect of hydrodynamic instability.
Derive an expression for the load capacity and flow in a circular step
thrust externally pressurized fluid film bearing.
Write a note on the numerical solution of Finite Journal Bearings,
bringing out the salient points in the solution method.
Write a note on ISO standards for rolling element bearings
