Right to be Free from Torture and Degrading Punishment

In this cartoon, it is showing the incident when Mikhail Beketov was

beaten outside of his home by the Russian government for writing
about how bad the government is. This cartoon shows that people in
Russia do not have the right to be free from torture and degrading
punishment. Today, he can barely talk because of the damage done to
his brain. The black bears in the dark clothing represent the Russian
government because black usually symbolizes meanness and
ruthlessness. The bear on the ground is Mikhail Beketov. I used irony in
this cartoon by making the black bears say the opposite of what a
democracy is. When the bear on the ground says, I thought we were a
democracy, the Russians say, Do you think democracy means
freedom? This shows irony because democracy actually does mean
freedom and it shows that they arent actually a democracy. They
laugh at him because its showing that the Russian government kind of
mocks democracy because they call themselves democratic, but they
know they really arent even close to it. Even though Russia attended

the UN Convention Against Torture in 1985, they violated human rights

by causing this man severe and long lasting pain just because they
didnt like what he said.
