Spring Concert Review
The spring concert that I had attended was the concert held at Wake Forest High School
on Thursday, April 30 at 7:00 pm. The groups that sung that night were the following: Harmonic
Reason, Mixed Chorus, Womens Ensemble, Advanced Choir, and Combined Choirs. The overall
appearance consisted of black suits with jackets for the men and black dresses for the women.
Also, only a small portion of the performers actually smiled and not a lot of performers had good
posture.
The first groups that performed were the Advanced Choir and Harmonic Reason which
consisted of both men and women. They sang The Star Spangled Banner with the most beautiful
vowels and the different parts were clearly defined. The next group that performed was the
Mixed Ensemble which consisted of both men and women. A couple of the songs that were sung
by this group were called Defying Gravity and Fascinating Rhythm. During Defying Gravity, the
different parts were clearly defined and the performers seemed excited to be up on stage
performing. Also, there were a few sharp notes that were sung. During Fascinating Rhythm, the
performers sang with beautiful harmony and vocal strength.
The next group that performed was the Womens Ensemble which consisted of all
women. A few of the songs that were sung by this group were the following: My favorite Things,
Breaking up Is Hard to do, and Taylor, The Latte Boy. During My favorite Things, the performers
sang with beautiful harmony, enthusiasm, and dynamics. During Breaking up Is Hard to do, the

performers were not snapping together, but they still had gorgeous vowels. During Taylor, The
Latte Boy, there was a girl named Audrey singing as a solo about her crush named Taylor who
worked at Starbucks and how he gave her a latte. The song reminded me of a Taylor Swift song
and the audience loved it with how adorable and hilarious it was when Audrey ran after Taylor
while screaming his name. Also, the dynamics were fantastic and the words were clearly
understandable because of that. The next group that performed was the Harmonic Reason (both
men and women) and one of the songs they sang was called Taylor, The Latte Boy Rebuttal. That
song was basically a part 2 of the previous one. I also heard, from some students sitting behind
me, that both of those latte boy songs are a tradition that they sing at every concert.
The next group that performed was the Advanced Choir which consisted of both men and
women. A couple of the songs that they sang were called Ave Maria and My Soul Is Awakened.
During Ave Maria, the performers sang with beautiful harmony and faded (decrescendo)
gorgeously at the end. During My Soul Is Awakened, the performers had fantastic dynamics,
crescendo, and a marvelous control of the many different parts during the song. The last group
that performed was the Combined Choirs which consisted of every single group. The song that
they sang was called For Good (From WICKED). Before that song was sung, the chorus
instructor invited everyone, who was in chorus and knew the song, to go on stage and sing with
the group. There were so many different voices that were put together and blended beautifully.
Also, there was a cute duet that was sung between one man and woman while they held hands.
At the end, there was a moment that honored all the seniors and they were presented a few
awards and recognitions. Overall, I really enjoyed every single song that was sung because each
song portrayed hard work and dedication.
